I think that the unit stationed there should a fixed unit. I transport that unit out thereby saving it. I don't think that in reality England would have abandoned Singapore right away.

Actually you don't want to transport that unit out of Singapore. When Singapore falls and Malaysia surrenders it evaporates no matter where it's been transported to. So, you're just burning transport MPPs for nothing.

Make sure you get the British fighter unit out. You should be able to jump to Port Blair and then Burma.

Thanks,
I didn't know that about the infantry unit. Can you save any of the DEI units if you move them to Australia?

Only the Dutch naval units. The land and air units go poof when the DEI surrenders.

Actually, the Strategy Guide says, "If the Dutch East Indies surrenders, any of their units at sea will continue to fight on from exile, while those on the soil of another Allied power will have a 10% chance of doing so."

I have flown the DEI Fighter several times to Australia before the surrender, but so far have not gotten the lucky 10% roll. Be sure that no DEI ships are in a DEI port as they will surrender there. In a DEI port isn't considered to be at sea.

Same here. I've never seen the Dutch fighter unit survive past the surrender. However, before it goes bye-bye it does come in handy for scouting out the Java Sea, so your escaping Dutch ships don't run smack into the Japanese Navy on their escape run south.

You’re right, in reality, the UK probably wouldn’t have abandoned Singapore so quickly. But the game has its limitations, and units stationed in certain locations are handled differently. Even if you manage to transport that unit, it will likely disappear once Singapore falls.

I know it’s frustrating, but it’s better to focus on more strategic objectives. Sometimes games don’t reflect historical reality perfectly, but we have to play by the rules they give us. Saving key units, like fighters, can give you an advantage later on. :)
