Heavy Panzer Regiment Bake

Post by Dragoon 45 »

Can anyone give me some good references on this unit besides, Kurowski's "Panzer Aces"? From what I have read about the unit so far, a series of linked scenario's or a mini campaign is just begging to be made about it.

Why does everyone focus on the German formations? [&:]
Time to spend some design effort on other nations and formations.

Thanks, Trying to find some more detailed info on the Regiments operations Jan-Feb 44. I have part of the 503 Schwere Panzer Abteilung's war diary for the period, but it goes into little detail. There is one incident on I believe 14 Feb, 44, where the regiment destroyed over 80 Russian tanks for the loss of 7 tanks. They caught a Russian Tank Brigade? in an assembly area and destroyed it.

Then while they were trying to open a corridor into the Cherkassy/Korsun Pocket, the regiment was down to about 10 runners (Panthers and Tigers) and still managed to open a partial escape route for the troops trapped in the pocket. The unit performed quite well for an ad hoc formation.

Personally, I would like to see a campaign following Creighton Abrams brilliant and valiant WW2 career.......("Patton's Own")...

Flashfyre, I go with what interests me at the time. Currently I am working on an Ardennes Scenario involving a
CAV Troop in its first two days in the Bulge. One CAV Troop delayed the German Attack through their sector for almost a day, because the Germans employed inexperienced troops and a dumb op plan. Masses of Infantry with out much support charging machine guns and light armor, it was kind of like a World War I battle. The CAV Troop was finally forced to withdraw when the Germans brought up heavy armor late in the day.

When I get that one done, I am thinking about the Heavy Panzer Regiment Bake.

Just joshing with ya.
But it does bug me a bit about the large number of scenarios/campaigns that focus on the German panzer formations.

I would loike to see russian tank or mech battalion campain from 1941 to 1945. Russians are fun to play - they grew in strength from coplete whimps, routed by single shot, in tin can BTs to unstoppable fighting machine of IS-2 heavy tanks.
