That is not looking good... 130 000 Japanese behind level 9 fortifications. Any ideas???

Avoid it .. move round and surround them .. keep enough there so he cant eject you from the nex. send men/tanks West and east( remember to target a city/base). when one hex out. send then SW and SE respectively .. cut him off and leave it to wither.

Good advice. I will start moving things accordingly soon as I got everything setup. The only problem to this plan is that he has around 14 units at Rangoon. So he can clear the road just South of Mandalay easily.

He cant move from ZOC to ZOC .. even one unit will block him in. and IF he moves men out to cover the rail line then you keep lapping round untill either he runs out of space or mandalay is weak enough to re-take.. and out of mandalay forts he'll be a LOT more vulnerable to your airforce. ummel him day in an day out. soon be so battered you'll be able to contest the non-city hexes with relative ease .. of course he might have a reserve in rangoon he commits north.

Basically try to surround .. and be flexible when he reacts to it. The indian and commonwealth tanks could be critical for speed in open hexes south of mandalay. and your armour is a LOT better than his on a one-one fight.

Good luck , it will take time , but its better to have him dancing to your tune than pointless assaults on mandalay.

EDIT .. also dakotas can drop in supply from the air if needed. not much i know .. but better than nothing. also retake pagan if poss and repair the resources for local supply.

Thanx for useful info Rob! [:)] Those ideas/suggestions are put in action immediately.

Game date 22nd December 1943

India & Burma

US Tanks are almost at Mandalay. The idea about flanking this base has been put into motion. There is 3 Chinese corps moving to position behind Mandalay.

I also have kept bombing those ground troops.

I wonder where those CV and CVL TF sailed that I spotted near Singapore. Either he is bolstering his Malaya defense or he is coming to raid India. Either way that is fine. I do not have significant TF in this area since my main supply source is coming from West Coast.

If he is raiding some of the coastal bases than fine too. I have plenty of fighter power in standby just in case.

Central & North Pacific

Allied CV's are almost at Pearl Harbour. There are 3 CV's (Wasp, Bunker Hill and Indomitable) along with couple CVL/CVE's waiting for them here. Also CV Yorktown and 3 CVE's will be in this area too soon.

I would say that I'am ready for the encounter againts KB.

China

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Bad weather cancelled planned airstrikes againts Makin Atoll. Hopefully it will be sunny tomorrow.

Allied ground troops are preparing for the oncoming assault at Makin.

I have brought more supplies to my forward bases. Everything seems good to go soon.

I have placed another "huge" air fleet at Myithkina. These planes will be targeting Mandalay also. I would not want to be in Japanese shoes soon.

Central & North Pacific

Allied CV fleet have rendevouzed at Pearl Harbour. Some of these ships will go through upgrades but most of them are just replenishing.

There are some enemy submarines in the area.

China

Just the bombardment of Makin Atoll to report.

It seems that there are around 10 000 enemy troops garrisoning this base.

I have also shuffled some old planes out of the frontlines in Oz. They are now training and upgrading in Southern Oz. Kittyhawk III have been put in frontlines.

In overall things are working as planned [;)]

Game date is 30th of December 1943

India & Burma

The Mandalay offensive will be cancelled.

I tried on delibarate assault againts the base and the results were not good. I lost over 9000 men and the Japanese losses were 2500 men. These odds are not worth the fight.

It also seems he is moving more troops to Burma or at least my recon indicates that. Well, that is good though since those troops can't be elsewhere.

To show kind of strenght he has there here is an bombardment assault made by the enemy last turn.

Ground combat at Mandalay

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 132605 troops, 1331 guns, 5 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 2864

Defending force 143176 troops, 683 guns, 1589 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 3219

Allied ground losses:
57 casualties reported

The adjusted defensive value for the Japanese side in the delibarate assault was 14000!!! and my offensive value was around 3000!!!

Central & North Pacific

I have started re-organizing my CV TF at Pearl Harbour.

The more I think the more I feel that I need to capture Wake Island! This would give me an forward base on which to start pressuring the Japanese supply convoys heading to their home ports.

China

He has now moved more than 200 000 men to Kweiyang. Is he thinking an offensive here or what?

Ground combat at Kweiyang

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 243063 troops, 1449 guns, 0 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 7360

Defending force 212978 troops, 2072 guns, 164 vehicles, Beginning Assault Value = 4091

Japanese ground losses:
132 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

The one thing I will start to take care off is Hanoi! He has stacked a lot of aircrafts there and last turn they flew to Lashio. This is unacceptable so a mission to destroy this airfield will be put into motion soon.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The preparations for oncoming assault at Makin Atoll continue. I need to secure Gilberts Island chain soon so that I can start to think my future advances.

B29's are not that far off and that will be the key moment.

Things are moving slowly ahead and we will have our victory sooner than later.

One question though. Do I need more than level 5 airfield from which the B29's can operate???

South East Asia HQ announced that operation Moon will commence next turn.

This operation will included most of the allied LBA bombers in the area of Burma.

Recon indicates that Japanese are reinforcing this area of the battlefield. There is already + 140 000 men at Mandalay and it seems more are moving on this direction.

The goal for operation Moon will be starvation of the enemy forces.

I will bomb every resource in this are to dust. This will hopefully lead to huge supply problems for the Japanese side.

The initial target will be Mandalay. Once this is completed we will strike at Pagan, Rangoon and surrounding bases in the area.

Hi,

I think it's Level 7 for the B-29s, but have never had them so can't tell you for sure. [;)]

It's interesting to see a game at such a late date - well done on keeping it going. Could you also post a screenshot of the strategic map?

If you have the time I'd also be interested in a brief summary of the war up to now since I haven't been following this since the beginning.

Summary of the War up to 1944

Post by aztez »

ORIGINAL: ctangus

As suggested here is a short summary of events leading to this date.

Malaya peninsula

The usual Japanese landings happened in December 1941. British troops immediately started to re-organize their defensive perimeter. In January 11th 1942 the Japanese army started their offensive against the fortress of Singapore.

The most bizarre happenings were 2 bombardment runs by Japanese navy. These happened in early February 1942. The result was good for allied side. The coastal guns at Singapore managed to sunk BB Haruna and CA Atago.

The last defenders surrendered in 24th of February 1942.

DEI

Early landings at Tarakan and Amboina were made by the enemy. Dutch navy along with couple of US cruisers managed to caught couple of invasion TF early on. This resulted to some delays in Japanese advance.

In February 1942 Japanese start landings at Kragen. Dutch airforce managed to inflict damage to enemy shipping there. Later in the month KB shows up in the area and establish air superiority for the enemy.

The Kendari base is captured in February 16th 1942.

The Dutch stronghold at Soerebaja is occupied 22th March 1942 after some fierce fighting.

Batavia last a bit longer but the last allied troops surrendered in 19th of April 1942.

Japanese finalize the occupation of Timor in 29th May 1942.

Philippines

The enemy landings begun in Aparri, Lingayen and Vigan.

A lot of enemy shipping were lost at Bataan since the Japanese army tried an sneaky invasion there. This enemy operation was a success but he lost a lot of AP’s with this operation. I propably could have repulsed the whole invasion but I had withdrawn most my infantry units to Clark Field and Manila where the final defensive line was ordered.

Important Davao base fell in 17th of January 1942.

The brave allied troops defending Philippine Capital Manila surrendered 7th of May 1942.

Central & North Pacific

The war got a bad start when CV Lexington was lost in December 8th 1941.

The first allied offensive (Operation Thunder in February 1942) came in this area when allied troops landed at Canton Island. This operation was succesfull and Canton Island has served as an critical link to our convoys heading to Oz.

Next allied operation ended up in total disaster. The Operation Hawk a.k.a invasion of Wake Island started 28th of July 1942. Initial landings were heavily repulsed by Japanese coastal guns and minefields. Nail in the coffing came when KB showed up in the area. Result was 2 US CV sunk, 3 US Divisions destroyed along with their supporting units, a huge amount of transport shipping lost and few BB’s heavily damaged.

As you all know there was an Allied CV raid against Tokyo few weeks back.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Japan conquered Rabaul and Port Moresby early along with those islands at Solomons.

The allied managed to stop Japanese advance at Noumea. From here operation Titan was launched in January 1943. The objective was to secure back Efate and Luganville bases. This operation was accomplished but the cost in transport shipping was high.

Couple of minor invasions have been made at Funafuti and Nanomea Atolls.

The bizarre incident was when Japanese forces landed at Cooktown in early 1942. These troops were destroyed by allied naval and air power.

In July 1943 allied 4E bombers hit Lunga heavily. This results to large amount of enemy planes destroyed on the airfields.

In August 1943 allied 4E bombers hit Munda. A lot of planes are destroyed on the ground here too.

August 14th the first wave of allied troops hit the beaches at Baker Island. Operation sunset has started.

Operation sunset resulted to KB vs US/RN CV dogfights. None of the CV’s where hit but air to air losses totalled in hundreds!!! I could have destroyed the bulk of the KB but we agreed with Hawker that I should let the KB slip by this time around. (He replaced Vorsteher) This base was finally conquered at September 8th of 1943.

The US/RN CV’s hit Rabaul area in late September 1943. This results to heavy aircraft losses to the Japanese. Also some of enemy ships are sunk with this raid.

Since than I have conquered Apamama Atoll and Makin Atoll.

India & Burma

British HQ ordered withdrawal of troops from Rangoon immediately when news on Japanese assault became public.

These troops withdrew to Mandalay and were reinforced by some Chinese Infantry units.

First enemy that reached Mandalay was there in late December 1941. This base however was not captured by enemy until 6th of June 1942.

The Japanese army made a push towards Myithkina but allied ground units managed to stop their advance there.

Area around Mandalay has also seen constant air to air battles since early on.

India have been completely peaceful.

RN decieded to send some of their Naval assets into South Pacific where these ships where to US Navy.

I have now launched an offensive in order to liberate Burma. This operation is ongoing.

China

Heavy enemy ground assaults begun the war at Yenen and Changsa areas. This came as a shock so Chinese HQ ordered troops to start falling back towards inner China.

Homan was occupied 7th of April 1942. This lead to huge ground battles at Sian which started 27th of April 1942. Japanese managed to capture the Sian base in May 17th 1942. These battles resulted to thousands being dead for both sides.

Another huge ground assault was made against Yenen (which has somehow managed survive) in June. This city was lost in June 10th 1942. These defenders withdrew towards Lanchow where they are still operating.

The bloodiest offensive started 20th of June 1942. This was the Japanese push towards Kweiyang. I decieded to move some of RAF fighters here to defend the skies. These battles have raged ever since and hundred of pilots have been lost on both sides.

In September 1942 Japanese ground offensive begun at Kweiyang. This has resulted to a stalemate where there over 200 000 involved for both sides. A couple of major assault having been made here but results have been devastating for attacker.

November 1942 saw heavy air raids against Chungking. Allied side managed to survive these with the of AVB and some Spitfire squadrons. Hundreds of planes where lost to both sides.
