NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the Birth of a Superpower
I am starting my first AAR after I began my third PBEM as the Allies since 3/06. My other two games are in early 1/42 - one is a standard game with two day turns and non-historic set up (he attacked Manila vs Pearl) and the other is a Nik Mod (5.0) with one day turns (he attacked Pearl for a week and sunk 5 BB's and 1 CA, plus 2 other BB's are sitting there with 96 sys [:(]).
This game will be another Nik Mod using two day turns - it increases fog of war and hopefully we can finish before the end of the decade. [:D] We are using non-historical first turn, but no warp drive for TF's. Thus, he hit Jolo and Davao in the PI. And, only a "drive by" at Pearl.
I ask all three of my opponents to stay away from this AAR. [;)]
I will post some of the Combat results - mainly those that are of major importance and discuss my strategies (and ask for feedback).

I spend most of my time giving orders to build forts, rest LBA to regain morale, and sent single TF's of AK/AP/TK away from the advancing Japanese army/navy.
My strategy:
I will fight where I can, but I will try to evac some of the Dutch, USA, and British BF to Northern Oz mainly to speed up the building up of forts and having some avaition support. These come from bases that will be nothing more than a speed bump to the Japanese. Java will mostly be defended in masse. I will work on building up my "East Pacific Wall" with Noumea more a forward base for the USA CV's, but will keep few LCU's there. I will use AK's to move the 2 BF's from Victoria Point and Tavoy (hopefully) to Andamann Island (needed to get the short legged LBA from Malaya to India/Burma) and the CD from Ragoon. Most BF's in southern Burma are headed to Mandalay to build up the forts. My Chinese units assigned to SE Asia are moving through the jungles towards SE India (more supplies there). From the PI, I will try to get out the 2 USA Tank and the PS Eng unit. Hopefully, I can get the large avaition BF's out of Malaya, PI, and Java. I also send all my AP's to Oz and away from danger. Thus, the AK's will be used for any transport duty. In Nik's Mod, the capacity of all AP/AK/TK are reduces and I will need all the AP's I can get my hands on later in the war. They will also be helpful to move LCU's from the West Coast for now.
Stay tuned for more,
Admiral Benoit

RE: NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the Birth of a Superpower
This was not a good day for the Allies. My "sneaky" Japanese opponent doubled back on me and ended up 240 miles NE of Pearl. From there death came again - loss of a CA and 3 DMS (they hurt the most). [:(] My BB's took on more damage with the Nevada at 99/23/1. The CVL and CVE Hosho are both in the Celebes Sea cutting off my fleeing ships from Manila.

East Pacific - Lexington and Enterprise are heading to Palmyra and the Saratoga is being diverted from Pearl after the return of the KB.
PI - I have loaded the 14 PS Eng onto 4 AK's (separate TF's of course)...[:D] Both the 192 and 194 Tank Bn went on separate AK TF's to try to make northern OZ. If only one AK from each of these TF's make it, it will be enough. Some are going to try to get there by going around northern Borneo. I need luck and bad waether!! I have a few of the escaping AK's from Manila headed to northern Bornea to pick up the 3 British BF - go to northern Oz to assist in building up forts. More help there than dying here IMO. Most of the fleeing ships were attacked by Zuiho and Hosho planes.
DEI - The 5th Dutch Naval BF at Teloebetoeng (southern tip of Sumatra) is loading up for trip to Derby. Force Z went to Batavia and then down the west side of Java. Where should she go now?? What does one do with the Dutch navy?? 3 of the Dutch ML headed up west coast of Sumatra to start ML in India/Burma. [;)] USA ships where at Balikpapan, but with two day turn cycle, now going to Timor.
India/Burma - AK TF to Victory Point and Tavoy to take BF's to Andamann Island. Another to Ragoon for the CD unit to go there also.
China - quite with level 9 forts to slow down bliztkrieg.

Japanese forces CAPTURE Makin base !!!

RE: NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the Birth of a Superpower
The good news is the it seems that KB has left Hawaii and was spotted by PBY's at Midway passing to the south of the island. [:D] The ships and airfields at Pearl will be recovering for some time - bases have this damage - 17/59/29.

East Pacific - Had a supply carrying AK torp off of San Fran. Formed a 6 DD ASW TF to find and sink the two Glen carrying subs. Pearl is recovering from KB's damage. Only BB Nevada resting on the bottom of Pearl - 99/23/1. The next worse BB is Arizona at 80. Sent all ships with damage, but speed over 20 to WC since KB was sighted south of Midway, plus it will free up shipyard points for the heavily damaged ships. They are headed to LA and SD due to subs off of San Fran. Saving PBY replacment to convert 2 or 3 Canadien to them and send them to India (Catalina's are too few and shorter legs).
Oz/NZ - Div/Bde/CD units moving to Perth and norther bases with stops at Brisbane for some to get a few more replacements.
PI - A few of the troop carrying AK's got hit, but going around Borneo may help along with those headed to the East of Mindanao may survive (mini-KB is in middle of Celebes Sea along with BB's that wasted Davao). Normal attacks by Japanese with Allies retreating to Manila/Clark/Bataan
SRA/DEI - loaded 3 British BF's in northern Borneo into multiple AK's for run to Broome (build up forts). 3 ML's continue their way towards India.
Malaya - Attacks on shipping continue with little success. Wish I had some highly experinced Beaufort V-IX over there...[;)] Retreat down the peninsula has begun with the 3 ISF in the lead (want to get them out along with 4 or 5 Bde, if possible). The MAF is being transported out to Palembang via Dutch transports. [:D]
Burma/India - the BF's at Victory Point and Tavoy loaded unto 2 two ship AK TF for trip to Andamann Island. Hopefully, no Betty/Nell on Naval attack in that direction. The best thing was finding out the port level at Karachi went up to 7 with 16% left over in just 4 days. Posted a thread on this and was informed that "motorized support" act like engineer vehicles. While staying there to fill out their TOE, they can raise the port and then fort levels. Then off to Madras and SE India for these Tank Bde. Usually I head them SE on day one, but decided to leave them there since the supply is over 20k and they can accept replacements. Akyab building to expand port to size 1 to allow supplies to be shipped in. Chinese units assigned to SE Asia on the move.
China - 5 Jap units at Changsa, but no attacks yet. Placing low level assault value units in neighboring hexes so I don't get retreat routes cut off (learning that lesson in my 1st PBEM).
Forts - just about everywhere, they are being build. Ports and airfields on hold
I just got my second new 256 MB RAM card yesterday (computer is 5 plus years old) and traded it for the one reamining original. Now, I can run combat replay and do orders without it locking up!![&o][&o] Have only 3 slots for RAM, so I will get my third card soon.

RE: NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the Birth of a Superpower
good luck in your game. couple quick questions about your most important units at the beginning.
1) where are you CVs heading?
2) where is the 2nd USMC Div heading?
3) where is the AVG heading?
1) I have the Lex, York, and Sara making brief stops in Pearl to upgrade from Buffalo's to F4F-3 Wildcats (I'm playing a Nik Mod, so I don't get the F4F-4 Wildacts until 4/42)and get full complements of SBD's and TBD's. Then they will go down to Noumea for some time until I see what my opponent is up too. I sent out two SC TF's consisting of the St Louis and Helena plus 3 DD's and another with Phoenix and Honolula plus 3 DD's. These will be my quick strike surface forces. Boise is already off by herself await targets of opportunity. I like these tough CL's and will try to use them wisely.
2) 2nd USMC will probably go to Suva. I would like to base it at Noumea, but that base plus Luganville are too exposed initially and not vital to my "East Pacific Wall."
3) I will keep AVG in Mandalay to aid in slowing down the Japanese and not divide it to send pieces to Malaya. I tried that once against the AI and got hurt, let alone against a human. [&o]
I want to slow him down, but am moving BF's to places that I feel I will need to make a stand over. Leaving some BF's in place are only speed bumps for SNLF to run over. In another PBEM, I have 3 to 5 additional BF's in north Oz and the fort building is going well.

RE: NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the Birth of a Superpower
Well, the war has taken a strange turn...for me at least when I receive this Ops message:

RE: NY59Giants (A) vs WineGuy (J) - the 3rd appearance of KB within 2 weeks
On 12/18/41 while trying to get a few of the lesser damaged ships to the WC under the false impression that KB is gone (ignored last sighting of a Val north of Hawaii), the Kingfisher from a BB Penn sights it - OS2U-3 Kingfisher sighting report: 9 Japanese ships at 124,65 , Speed 16 , Moving Southeast
Thus, it is 840 miles ENE of Pearl!![X(] [:(] [X(]
Meanwhile, all 3 CV's are at Pearl (Sara, Lex, and Enterprise). They have taken on fuel and all airgroups have full compliments. All planes have been set on naval attack, CAP, and 80% search for PBY's at Pearl. Ships in the eastern Pacific have been broken down to single ship TF's and will continue on to Canton, Pago, and Suva while those close to the WC head back to port.
I could not leave the CV's at Pearl, so I decided to head them due North to Anchorage. More to follow. . . [8|]

More to follow. . . [8|]

The 3 American CV's will change course (north to northeast) and head to Seattle. Lex and "E" are 3 hexes ahead of Sara, but 6 hexes to the NE of all 3 TF's is a solid wall of "RAIN" [&o][&o] I chose Seattle because I could base planes there and in Vancouver (which i did). KB may have lost it's fuel supply and it's DD's may stop and re-fuel on there own.
I will try to update other normal combat and my defensive plans for each area shortly.

What are your house rules? I don't see him bombing your resources in China so this must be a house rule or your opponant hasn't realized this.
As the Allies I would consider a raid on Kwajeline. Take out his AS ships and the sub war in the Cent Pac falls apart.
Against me KDonovan made Java into a fortress using massed B-17s. These could slow down the Jap advance until the KB gets into position. If he is going into the DEI without air cover you can really make him pay.

RE: RE:3rd appearance of KB within 2 weeks!!
This game has been stopped with the arrival of the new CHS. I suggested that we re-start using the CHS campaign and as soon as it comes out with version 2.04 we will get started. I will probably do a AAR on that game.
I found another opponent to do the CHS game, so I will have two PBEM's as Allies using the CHS and one as the Allies doing Iron Storm with 1EyedJack (joint AAR has just begun). None of my games got past mid-Jan 42, so a significant amount of time had not past.
