EUBanana vs Sprior, Banana Strikes Back

Post by EUBanana »

Our last game died mostly due to my unfortunate RL getting ahead of me.

But I'm back, kinda. And a fresh game is being revved up.

CHS Base 2c,
ABs extended map,
scenario 158 which is Nik mod with Soviet Navy.
# Turn cycle = 1 day
# Allied sub doctrine = off
# Japanese sub doctrine = off
# fog of war = on
# advanced weather = on
# Allied damage control = on
# historical 1st turn = off
# player defined upgrades = off
# vary setup = off
# December 7 surprise = on
# reinforcements = variable +/- 15 days
# auto sub ops = off
# facilities to expand at start = off
# automatic air upgrades default = off
# air and ground replacements default = off

# The Japanese are not allowed to enter the Panama and Aden passages.
# Aden is off limits to the Japanese and cannot be invaded nor attacked by the Japanese.
# Japanese carriers are not allowed within 4 hexes of the entrances/exits of Aden.
# Japanese subs are not allowed within 4 hexes of the entrances/exits to Aden.
# Turn 1: Allies are only allowed to move TFs already at sea or TFs already present in a port.
# Turn 1: KB must attack PH on turn 1 and is not allowed to go after the American carriers on the first turn
# Turn 1: Japanese are only allowed to invade bases up to 15 hexes away from a friendly base and must be within "line of sight". In other words no invading the back side of islands or bases tucked away behind islands and land masses.
# Units assigned to the following HQs may only be deployed outside their command areas if they are transferred to another HQ:

* China Command HQ
* Canada Command HQ
* Kwantung Area Army HQ

# All Australian nationality Brigade and Division LCUs (not AIF units) are only allowed to move within Australia Proper and New Guinea (including New Britain but NOT Dutch New Guinea). This restriction is permanent, even if the units are reassigned to a HQ other than ANZAC Command, and still applies even if a Division or Brigade is split into smaller units.
# The Soviet Union attack must be triggered by entering hex 65,32
# The construction of at least one of the two Shinano ships MUST always be halted
# No more than 6 ships to be assigned to ASW groups
# 4E bombers not to be used on Naval Strike missions at an altitude below 20,000' until 1st January 1943.

Most of the rules look familiar. [:)]

Good luck!

PS: Another CHS game! Matrix should really think about incorporating the changes into stock.

Yeah, I looked through the rules and saw these as some of the best available - hope you don't mind. We'll be using CHS 2.06, scenario 158. It might take a few days to get my feet underneath me as things are slightly different to the stock.

Post by EUBanana »

well, first impressions

more aggressive than the last game, landings at Rabaul on turn 1.  And Amboina too, I don't recall that happening before

Got off pretty light at Pearl!   so far

Subs boil out of Manila looking to do some damage, untouched by bombers.  Not that they will with their nonfunctional torpedoes but still.  Lotsa subs.

...where is my av support!  Ouch.  I don't remember it being this tight.  A CHS thing?

...and the game crashed while I was looking over the new Dutch ships at Soerabaja, so maybe I'm missing an artwork file or something.

PH with no torpedogs? Doh!
Happened in my PBEM too. Distance between KB and Pearl Harbor was 4 hexes, right?

I have replicated the bug.  CTD when I look at the Dutch PG Soemba.

I assume I must be missing some file or something.  Anybody got any solution?

I have no problem with PG Soemba. CHS 2.05, Scen 155. Maybe you should re-download the art package?

Probably. The one I got is pretty old, and I guess thats a fairly obscure bit of art for that Dutch PG.

Hmm.  Well, tried it with fresh art, PG Soemba still causes a CTD...

Does it work with a different CHS scenario? Just a wild guess...

OK, I've finally redone the old turn without looking at Soemba.  :D

I noticed the P-38 Lightnings have no a/c art as well so I presume its some sort of art file I'm missing, though no a/c art didnt crash anything.

Don't really have any plans as yet.  in the DEI I'm trying to form up some effective taskforces asap as I got ships scattered all over the place, and generally scrambling valuable units out of Dodge as needed.

Going to wait three days I think before cogitating any grand plan.

Prince of Wales got torpedoed by a sub somewhere east of Palembang, but it bounced off the 20,000 tons of armour plate pretty much.

Repulse dodged torpedoes in Singers harbour due to my own incompetence - she's not supposed to be there!

He's lost about 50 megapilots from KB thus far and not sunk a single ship at Pearl.  Needless to say, I reckon this is a good state of affairs.  :D

The Dutch were cast recklessly into battle along with a whole lot of other surface assets, and actually kicked some ass!  Shame the guns ran dry but still, mucho damage.  Houston took on two DDs and sunk em both as well.

Big Bad Boise looks like she's got away from the Jap so far.

He's moving at such speed that even if I set the nearest ship to intervene at the landing he'd be gone by the time it arrived!

Baby KB is moving past southern Borneo now, catches some AKs.  Lots of carnage around Formosa still as the last few AKs still in the area are mopped up.  Prince of Wales tries to intervene at northern Borneo (Kuching I think it is) but the annoying "Transport TF Runs Away" message popped up so no engagement (how exactly 10 knot APs escape a 28 knot taskforce with radar is anybody's guess.).  Thus denying me the spectacle of 14" gun hits!  Aggressive deployment of Vildebeest and Swordfish pays off as Kongo is torpedoed at Kota Baru.

KB has moved away from Pearl now, not a single ship sunk.  [:D]  Its not all good though, all battleships are moderately to heavily damaged so while they may not be VPs in the bag, the US will have 0 battleships for a while yet.

Some small surface taskforces have now been organised, fuelled up and are ready to engage in the DEI.  Elsewhere the Allies are still trying to bring order to chaos, let alone actually fight back.
