"Can't access surface for lock" error

Post by hongisto »

Hello:

I'm trying to run COI on a new Intel Mac with the Parallels program, which allows you to actually run XT on a Mac. I am so much of a CC freak that one of my main reasons for upgrading to a new Intel Mac was to play CC!

Anyway, the install went fine, but when I try to play, after I do unit selection and all the prelims to having the map come up on screen, at the same time the map comes up, I get an error message saying "Can't access surface for lock". Since I am a total Windows moron (20+ years on Macs), I have no idea what to try. I have installed both of the files included with COI which are needed for play (the Java VM and one other file). Can anyone help? I want to play!

Thanks.

AFAIK DirectX based games do not work at all via Parallels. I guess you would be much better doing with a Bootcamp installation of XP (which is very easy to do btw.)

Btw. are you running the latest beta of Parallels? It solves a lot of performance issues.
