Most Important Fix

Post by Johnus »

Been playing exclusively since the patch was issued. Please accept my congratulations on a wonderful job. I think FOF is now one of the top wargames extant.

Most glaring fix needed (maybe the only important one, I have found) is the need to stop the Army of Northern Virginia from wondering off from Richmond about 2 years into the war when there is a strong Army of the Potomic in Washington.

Again, great job with the game and the patch. I especially enjoy the mix between strategy and detailed battles. Just as I'm about to tire of one, it seems I'm involved with the other. Makes me want to try out Crown of Glory, which I own but never really played.

Agree that the patch has significantly improved the game. In the games I have played as the Union, the ANV has been very active in moving away from Richmond but have also seen it come back to attack the Army of the Potomic. Like most on the forum, I would prefer the ANV to stay in Richmond area. But it has created some interesting battles as it moves around from East to West and back. Also have Crown of Glory and played frequently in the past. Good game but I haven't really been able to get into the Napoleonic era.

I guess we don't want the ANV to be too predictable.

Johnnie,
Eric is working on getting the AI to keep the ANV and AOP where they belong. You're right, that that shouldn't be happening.
Michael Jordan plays ball. Charles Manson kills people. I torment eager potential customers by not sharing screenshots of "Brother Against Brother." Everyone has a talent.

Thanks for the kind words.  We're testing an AI change that should keep these armies more closely tied to the VA theater.

I would suggest that the out-of-sync pbem replay issue is of nearly equivalent importance, if not more so.

Although the game is primarily played single player, this system really shines in a pbem game, with a human opponents unpredictability and ingenuity.

I stopped a pre-patch pbem game post-patch, and now can't bring myself to pick it back up after experiencing all the great changes.
Oh look, my CV's are on fire.

The PBEM synch problem is our #1 to-fix issue right now (it's the primary reason development of this patch went over schedule too).  We think we may have it isolated to a problem with sieges, but aren't sure yet.

Will an attempt to keep the ANV around Richmond be in the next version of the patch ?
