I think its ready ...who wants it?

I'd like a copy. Will you be posting it anywhere for download?

Hopefully AB will post it...

In the end I opted not to mess with the Soviet Fleet ...

Thank you Andrew....

I'm sure there are a 1000 things that could be tweaked... in the end I opted not to touch the Soviet navy as that was not the intent of the mod...

Here are the biggies...

1. Type 00 device (aircraft cannon) accuracy values are 70% of CHS.
2. Pilot Experience cut by 20 across the board.
3. Aircraft rated in terms of Knots
4. Drop tanks implemented
5. Airbase ratings dropped across the board
6. Additional bases in China and Burma
7. Complete rework of Chinese and Russian OoB.
8. Partial tweaking of Japanese OoB - Eliminated NLF's which are part of Sp. Base forces, Reworking of Ind. Mixed brigades and 56th Div and 56th Bde.
9. Inclusion of Nanking Army units in China for the Japanese.
10. Put the Hickory back in in place of the Theresa - 59 ki-59s were built before being replaced by the Ki-54c - with over 1300 built. This necessitated the Art file change.

Some other changes -

11. After going through the Witpchk file their were a number of leaders that were assigned to multiple units I eliminated those duplications.

12. Likewise some units were assigned suffixs from other unit types. So you you may now see 7th Armored Tank regiment instead of 7th Armored Regiment. - Not a biggie IMO.

I would appreciate any and all playtesting and suggestions based on playtesting... Likewise there are slots out there for some things if you have any other suggestions that can be documented with sources.

I would prefer to eliminate many of the late-war toys and introduce mid- and early- war toys in their place. However since I am not an art guy I opted not to pursue this since it would require aligning tops and shils...not my forte'....any volunteers?

Errata -

P-40E Max Speed should be set to 314 not 291.
P-39D max Speed should be set to 320 not 360.

My apologies...

Treespider, I am concerned about one thing here: you reduced the effectiveness of air-to-air weapons, but not air-to-surface weapons. This will likely make shipping losses climb tremendously as fighters will be unable to drive off the bombers, but the bombers will be just as effective as ever. Did you test this out? Are my concerns unwarranted?

I don't believe there will be a tremendous increase in shipping losses. More bombers may indeed get through (which I don't see as a problem) but I don't believe the increase in losses will be tremdous. Remember those bomber crews now have 20 points less experience...Here is a sample engagement - the single Enterprise vs. AI-run KB two days after PH. Engagement distance - 2 hexes...

Day Air attack on TF at 112,64

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 64
F1M2 Pete x 4

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 17
SBD-3 Dauntless x 33
TBD Devastator x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 3 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 16 destroyed
SBD-3 Dauntless: 22 destroyed
TBD Devastator: 13 destroyed

Japanese Ships
BB Kirishima
CV Shokaku

Aircraft Attacking:
2 x SBD-3 Dauntless bombing at 2000 feet
2 x TBD Devastator launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Well, now, an Enterprise vs KB strike on Dec 9, '41 isn't exactly a fair test... [;)]

I've been seeing a lot of bombers get through in the CHS Experimental Mod, which has reduced allied exp ratings (except USN) by 10%, Japanese and USN exp ratings by 5%, increased fighter durability by 60%, all other a/c durability by 40% and decreased air dropped torpedo accuracy by 25%.

Your method may work better. I have downloaded the scenario, but since I'm in the midst of a PBEM on the CHS it'll be awhile before I get to test out yours...

Is your reduction of aircraft weapon accuracy similar to BigB style ? I really like that idea...it works really well in BigB scens.

And this is for extended map ? (just wanting to be sure before I try)

BigB in essence dropped accuracy by 50% by using a formula involving RoF and Muzzle Velocity. I opted for a clean and dirty 30% reduction across the board.
And this is for extended map ? (just wanting to be sure before I try)

This Scenario is based entirely on CHS 155 for the extended map.

Like BigB I didn't want to alter the AA values to compensate for increased aircraft DUR ratings...which in turn would affect the values used against ground troops and ships during landings.

Hopefully the change to knots, the reduction in accuracy, and the reduction in pilot experience will have a positive impact.

SBD-3 range values...currently rated at 8 extended, 6 normal, 24 max range.

This equates to a maximum range in 1440 statute miles or 1258 nautical miles...its speed and endurance calculate out to a maximum range in statute mile of 1447.

Several sources cite the SBD-3's range as 773 miles. I have used the values from Larry Bond's Command at Sea which said 1260 nautical miles. Fran Bonne's website had this information...

Its powerplant was 1 × R-1820-52 Cyclone radial, rated at 1,000 hp (746 kW), and it had a length of 32 ft 8 in (9.96 m), empty and maximum take-off weights of 6,345 lb and 10,400 lb (2.878 kg and 4.717 kg) respectively, max level speed of 250 mph (402 km/h), cruising speed of 152 mph (245 km/h) at optimum altitude, max range of 1,580 miles (2.543 km) on a scouting mission, typical range of 1,345 miles (2.165 km) on a bombing mission, initial climb rate of 1,190 ft (363 m) per minute, and service ceiling of 27,100 ft (8260 m)

1580 miles equates to 1373 nautical miles which is greater than the range I have given the SBD-3.

Comments welcome...

Strange... in CHS those ranges are 3 (normal), 4 (extended), and 14 (maximum). It has been so long since I've played stock, are those the ranges as listed in the stock scenario?

Yes thay are and that is what would calculate out if I used 773 statute miles as the range.

just downloaded your mod.....looks great!

I especially like the AF size reductions you've made. As the Japanese, you actually have to plan out carefully what base's you want to build up and where, instead of making practically any base on the map a "Level 4 Torpedo Capable".

Thanks for the endorsement...the base changes were a big reason for the mod in the first place...hopefully it will have the desired results...if you see any obvious glaring anaomalies please let me know...
