How to Test PBEM First Turn?

Post by Oldguard1970 »

I start the game as PBEM, create a Japanese password, adjust first turn (non-historical scen 15) and save without ending the orders phase.

How can I run this saved file against the AI to test my critical first turn move?

(I have tried using the "Allied computer" setting, but when I load the saved game and hit "end turn", I am sent to the "save game menu". The turn does not run.)

(I think I recall reading a thread about this. I tried a search... with predictable results.)

Thanks in advance to the JFB's

You have to set it up as PBEM.

Save your turn before ending (call this save-A).
End the turn (different save, call this save-B).

It should now open as Allied.
Either make "reasonable" moves for Allies (or none, depending on your house rules).
End the turn (save-B).

Run the turn.

Rework save-A as nessary, end turn as save-B.

Don't forget to save a clean copy of your GT1 move in some unused slot, so you can use it as the basis for your next PBEM. That's where you can save yourself some time.

Really Irrelevant?  Have to do them twice?

Nevermind what I said then (altho I'm not sure why my suggestion wouldn't work).

Just be aware whatever you do that most if not all allied players will change a ship destination or a sub loaction or do something to reset the random generator for weather and dice rolls.

What I am trying to say is by all means use this technique to perfect your moves if you must but if you are doing it be aware that the allied player will almost definitely do something somewhere to make sure its not totally scripted (I always do) - In one very old game that I started an opponent prepared his trun 1 he ran it 50 times to make sure it was the most devastating turn 1 he could find assuming I would do nothing

I then moved a single sub in the eastern pacific 1 hex and changed a chinese FB sqn location.

The turn didnt work out as anticipated and he was not happy.

Running turn 1 once to check for obvious cock ups is one thing that most players wont argue with that .... running it several times to ensure its perfect would get a lot of players backs up (mine included)

I doubt I would play a PBEM if I thought my opponent had run turn 1 multiple times to make it perfect.

Hi Andy,

My opponent and I are still rookies. We both assumed that running the Japanese first turn several times is just a good way to find the goofs and oversights. It can also be used to test ideas just as the Japanese commanders could with war games. We thought this would permit the Japanese palyer to perfect his PLAN. We had no idea it could be used to perfect the plan's EXECUTION. (We assummed there would be different executions each time the first trun was used.)

Thanks for your information. Based on that the allied player will make small changes to reset the random generator.

So only the Japanese players can refine their first turns?! This game is so biased against the Allies it's not funny anymore!! Clearly the devs have been Japanese fanboys!!! [:@]

[;)]

Since this should help a lot of players to start their PBEMs I'll add it to the 'Must Read List'.

Yea but the Allies will win in the end. [:D]
I'd like to see a setup where if the Allies do real well them get less reinforcments, there is a war in Europe you know. [:-][:D]

How about additional reinforcements for the Allies in case their offensives stall? [:'(]

If we adjust Allied reinforcements according to VPs every day ALL games will end on September 2, 1945 with an Allied victory! Wouldn't that be GREAT?! [;)]

Seriously, I think the game should allow for early Japanese AND Allied victories.

But mostly Allied... [:D]

I have a Allied notes (for Stock) of what to change preps for where, and where to send my TFs.  There's still a lot to do, and it's certainly subjective to whatever mischief that Japan makes, but it saves a couple hours.
