Tactics, Stances and Facing questions

Post by WallysWorld »

Just starting to play my first For Liberty campaign and I'm really enjoying it. But I have some question concerning that I want to play all of the battles out on the tactical screen.

If I do play all of the battles myself and not automatically, does tactics (Cautious, Balanced and Bold) have anything to do with the tactical interface? Or are tactics only use when battles are done automatically? If I read it correctly in the manual, it says tactics are not a factor if you play out the battle. But I want a second opinion on this, please.

Same question about the unit stance. If I set a force to Defend, will I get any sort of bonus on the tactical screen? Or if I set my force to Retreat, will my force try to retreat before the battle starts? Again, this is just for playing out the tactical battles.

As for unit facing, the manual states that a force attacked from the side or rear on the strategic map suffers a morale loss for the duration of the battle. Does this morale loss only affect battles done automatically or does it also affect units in tactical battles played out by the player?

Many thanks for any and all replies.

I don't think the Tactic you choose matter when you fight out a battle in Tactcal mode. You can be as bold or as cautios as you like.
I'm not sure about the other two but I seem to have more units available at start when I'm in a defend mode as opposed to move or rest mode.

James is right, tactics is only for auto-battles. Stance has an effect on the number of units you get the start. If your army was resting, then the enemy will get a surprise attack - it means a hefty negative morale modifier for your troops during the battle.
