Romania entry in to the war

Post by Andreus »

Historically speaking it would be more realistic if romanian entry was subordinate to some conditions, that is:
1.Romania declares war only if Russia has units within Austro-Hungarian border and no russian city south of Lublin are occupied by Central Powers.
2.If russian units occupy AH cities the chance should be greatly improved

I don't know if this feasible but when I see Romania entering war at the same time Russia is barely surviving on the Kiev-Cherkassy-Odessa line, it looks a very silly decision by the rumanian government [:)]

As it was historically - their main consideration was that they were promised Transylvania - even the actual success of the Brusilov offensive didn't bring them in.

In case of Russia being under pressure the allies would probably have promised anything at all to try to relieve the pressure - so I don't see it as a problem that they make a poor decision - they didnt' have 20/20 hindsight.

At least we've had it improved so that they don't enter if Russia is already defeated!![:D][:D]

They entered war (aug 27) following a string of defeats for AH. First the austrian offensive against Italy failed (may 14 - june 10), then Brusilov started his own (june 4), this in GOA means Russia occupies Czernowitz and the plans till the romanian border, and last the italians occupied Gorizia (aug 6). Indeed this looked a decisive chance for Romania, I can't blame them. But AH was more strong than expected.

Yeah he's right. I always think the greatest achievement of AH during the war was that they lasted almost until the end and did not collapse. Also there were much less nationalities uprising than you would have expected.

Yes the old Franz Joseph had approved some necessary reforms but unfortunately for the future of AH the war stopped any further vital reforms.

But despite this war weariness, hunger and riots was not substantially worse than in Germany.
