Help with Supply please

Post by arthurmomatrix »

Apologies if I have missed this in other threads but after learning so much from dave74 about how to play this I only have one final aspect to master. Supply (or, in my case, lack of it). Dave74s AAR should have a link in the pdf manual by the way!

I think I can do land based now but have some problems with overseas. Can someone just put down 4(?) easy steps please to ensuring an invading army, say of 90 rifles, sitting on an Island 15 hexes away from home port, gets supplied for a few turns.

Sorry if this sounds obvious but I'm not sure what the foolproof way is of making this happen.

Das123's AAR is really a good read so do follow Vic's link.

Anyho, basically:
1. Put a superior HQ in a port or coastal city and make sure it has cargoships (how many depends on the how many troops there are in the invasion force)
2. Upon invasion secure either a coastal city or build a makeshift port and put the invasion HQ there or a new HQ superior to the invasion HQ AND inferior to the HQ on the starting island.
3. Make sure you produce enough supply
4. Keep warships in the vincinity of the overseas supply chain as oversea support can suffer from enemy Anti-supply.

A few things to note:
1. Until you establish a supply route as per above you suffer from severe supply penalties overseas if at all possible so it is prudent to have the invasion HQ stockpiling supply prior to invasion
2. If you have setbacks and need supply your troops fast you can do it by air provided you have transport planes. This also is subject to penalties so it shouln't be a long term solution.
3. It is always good if you can secure an overseas town/city relatively soon to provide supply for your forces.

Many thanks Vic and especially Yoggi. I re-read Das123 and I think everything has now clicked (it was a bit beyond my understanding first time as I'd just found out how to move troops over the water - let alone what those blue and grey circles were for). Yoggi's reply has just put the icing on and has made it clearer still - you need to get an HQ in fast.

Thanks to all of you.

What a terrific game.

Final question. (I hope).....
The blue and grey circles only appear when someone (me or an enemy) is trying to use a supply route that crosses water - they don't appear oyherwise. Is this correct? And can a land unit excert anti supply powers in a sea ZOC - does he have ZOC in an adjacent sea hex at all in fact?
