[UTILITY] Max FB Database Editor v 1.7.0

Post by jdhalfrack »

File Name :: Max FB Database Editor v 1.7.0
Author :: JDhalfrack
Description

Uninstall the old version before installing this newer version!

MAKE A BACKUP before using this program. I am not promising that there will be no errors/bugs that will ruin the file.

CHANGE LOG v 1.7.0
- Modified the main form's caption to indicate what league file you currently have open
- Added an advanced filter option to allow you to search for players based on skills and other options
- Fixed the "Overflow error" with the random global edits option (I hope)
- Created a "version 1.0" OVERALL player rating
- Rearranged and resized various things on the main form (this resulted in the actual size of the main form being larger... if this is a problem, ket me know)

THINGS THAT DO NOT WORK:
- There were some weird errors people got with version 1.6.2. I tried to replicate as many as I could and fix them. However, I know that I did not replicate them all. So, there will probably be weird, obscure errors that still pop up now and then.
Sorry [:(].
- Currently, anything that is "greyed out" is there because I plan on doing work on it in the future, but it not accessible right now. It's easier to add the structure when adding other things, so that's why it's in the program.

THINGS THAT I AM CURRENTLY (STILL) WORKING ON:
- Salary / Salary Cap calculator
- Schedule editor
- code for viewing / editing all other player images
- code for adding a new player through the editor
- the "Teams" tab (basically... an editor for teams)
- the "Stats" portions of the editor are basically complete, but with the new Max FB update 2.2 coming out soon, I will release it with my first update after the 2.2 release

When using this program, clicking the "Temp Save" button saves the data on the current selection to the program, but not the database. To make all changes permanent (aka, save them to the database), goto Database --> Save.

I am aware of the current list of suggestions/addons and am working as fast as I can to incotperate everything. Just a heads up, though, anything involving extracting/importing is easy code, but takes a LOT of time setting up the correct format. So, those types of functions will come around later.

Goodluck and Enjoy!

Hello JD,

Any chance on adding the ability to change Face and Skins? I have customize Faces not to be confuse with potrait I.D. and customize skins. I kept them in order such as F1.face(medium) F2.face(light) F3.face(dark) F4.face(medium) F5.face(light) F6.face(dark) F7.face(medium) F8.face(light) F9.face(dark) and etc. basiclly staying in the order of medium, light, and dark. In my skins i followed same order. I found that out a while ago when players were bieng generated, when i dont have it in order ill have a player that has either Light face and arms thats Dark Skin(wierd and funny).
Anyhow thought id ask. In the mean time ive been using the stocked editor to select faces and skins.
Thanks for the editor.

Actually, I had this on my list of things to do. I think it's still on my list, and I'm not sure why I haven't done that yet. I will try to get that added soon. I just got done coaching basketball and scholastic bowl, so I should (in theory) have more time to work on the editor.

WARNING: At 6:42 AM on March 2nd, 2008, my computer crashed with what I can only call a major viral infection! Please be aware that until this moment, I have never had, or at least known, about any viruses on my computer. This program was released on February, 29th, 2008 and should be virus free. However, please be VERY cautious with this download. Sorry for any inconvinience this may cause.

I believe this file has been scanned a million times, and no virus was reported. once again, sorry for the inconvinience.

Has anyone tried out the new editor?  the only reason I ask is because I'm curious about a few things.

First, how is the advanced search option working?  Does it search the way you wanted it to?
Second, I has anyone encountered the "overflow" bug yet?
Third, are my overall ratings accurate?  They will need to be tweaked for better accuracy, I'm sure.  And, at some point, I plan on allowing the formulas to be custom made.  Ultimately, my plan is to make it so you can autogenerate depth charts based on an overall rating (or any specific skill rating).

Anyway, let me know what your opinions are!

I've tried the latest version and it has fixed the overflow error I used to get when doing global edits on the Random tab using the first option. Strangely, never had a problem using the Normal Distribution option.

Many thanks for all your excellent work JD.

I get this error only when i save the DB  "run-time error '5':  invalid procedure call or argument.

I figured out what the problem is. I have a "half-written" line of code in the re-loading of a database after a save.

The bad news is that I won't be able to fix this until my next release because I have too much code re-worked for the next release (which won't work for current databases for reasons I can't / am not allowed to say right now).

The good news is that it is actually saving the database first. Any changes have already been saved by the time the error occurs.

So, I understand that it's an in convinince (I'm REALLY sorry [:(] ), but please bear with me until I release the next update.

I finally got a chance to take 1.7.0 out for a spin. Once again, great work, JD!! First, let me commend you on having a program I could actually get to work on the first try! Just a few suggestions. On the player search, I would love if we could sort by one thing, then by another (so, for example, sort the QBs first by pass accuracy, then by pass strength [making my desired draft prospects easier to sort]). Also, when exporting the roster, the overall rating does not appear, and the category headings are labelled by R1, R2, etc rather than Speed, Strength, etc. Thanks again for the great work!!

Hey Glenn, I'm glad you like the editor!

In response to your questions/requests, let me just make sure I know what you're asking for because I think you can already do what you want.
On the player search, I would love if we could sort by one thing, then by another (so, for example, sort the QBs first by pass accuracy, then by pass strength [making my desired draft prospects easier to sort]).
I'm not sure what you're asking for, but you can already sort by every rating, height, weight, age, years pro, and team and position. To do what you want to do (I think) can already be done. Use the "Advanced Filter" Option. Let's say you want to do a search of QB's with accuracy of at least 80 and then strength of at least 50. Make sure you have the position set to "Quartbacks." Then, just set Pass Accuracy "is greater than or equal to" 80 and set Strength "is greater than or equal to" 50. When you hit the "re-apply filter" button it will only display QBs with at least 80 Pass Accuracy and at least 50 Strnegth. Is that what you're wanting?
Also, when exporting the roster, the overall rating does not appear, and the category headings are labelled by R1, R2, etc rather than Speed, Strength, etc.
I did both of those things intentionally, but I can fix that in the future. The reason I did that is because I only included the actual headings that are in the "Players" table in a league database file. "Overall" is not one of them. I made up my own formulas for "Overall" ratings. Also, the ratings are actualy called "R1," R2," etc... so that's why I did that. But, In future versions I will try and remember to include the overall rating in exported files and include the name of the rating.

I hope this helps. And, I'm glad you're liking the editor!

JD

Hi JD,

Sorry, I was not clear on what I was saying. I love that we can filter out a general grouping (say QBs with accuracy of over 80 and pass strength of over 80), but I was wondering if we could then order the resulting list, say by the highest accuracy, for example. In other words, I may not want to even bother with QBs who lack even 80 arm strength, so once we filter those out, I would like to order the remainder by some attribute(s) (otherwise, we have to go into each one to see their attributes). Hopefully this makes sense. By the way, I feel like an ingrate (sp?) to keep asking for features - what you have done to this point is just amazing and an incredible boom to the entire community!!

The short answer is yes. This is possible. Easily would be if you just wanted to sort by one skill. My general plan is to include all skills in the player list area. Then, you would just need to click on a column and it would sort by that skill.
The long answer is still yes, but do I have the space to do it. I already feel bad that my editor is taking up such a huge amount screen space. extending the playerlist view would mean another overall look change (which I am not opposed to, so it's not a big deal). And, if you want the option to sort by more than one skill, truthfully, that will probably never happen. Too much coding would be involved in that process. Sorry.
By the way, I feel like an ingrate (sp?) to keep asking for features
Don't worry about it! Ask away! [:)]

It is fine. just make sure you know that the utility shutsdown autmatically after saving a changed database. That's just bad programing, not a virus. It still saves the DB, though.

jdhalfrack,

I can't get the 1.7.0 editor to work. When I try to run the program I get this message...

(Component 'MSFXGRD.OCX' or one of it's dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.)

I get the same message when I try to run 1.6.2

I have no problem running 1.5.2 so i've reverted back to that version.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

You can try and find the MSFlxgrd.ocx on the internet and install/register it. Otherwise, I am somewhat close to finishing the newest version of the DB Editor which does not require any dependency on the MSFlxgrd anymore. The target date of this weekend will not happen, though because I am adding flooring to my bathroom this weekend and doing some other repairs.
