The Unconquered Country - Star Drek the Mod

Post by Barthheart »

Captain's Log - Stardate 1(?):

The Smegeration president has taksed us with "Going where no one has gone before!" Easy for him to say while he sits safe in his comfy chair.....
We need to seek out new worlds and species and make ... err... convince them to join our group of planets where everyone is treated humanely... even if they are not human. Especially if they are a highly industrial people so we can exploit ...ummm... use their technology to defeat our age old enemies the Kligoffs and their lacky blockheads the Domino.

Capt. Burke: Well Smock, it looks like we get to be the pointy end of the stick again.

Mr. Smock: Come again?

Capt. Burke: You know "We come in peace. We are your friends. Give us all your women and fancy wepaons." That kind of thing. We're to find new wealth for the Smegeration.

Mr. Smock: Ah, right Captain....

Lt. A. Whore-a: Captian we just recieved word form Smegeration HQ that the Womulan Empire has pledged to help rid the galaxy of the Klingoffs and the Domino.

Capt. Burke: The Women Empire! I like the sounds of that!

Lt. A. Whore-a: No Sir, the Womulans... Smock's ancient cousins?

Capt. Burke: Oh them... well that's good too but not nearly as exciting. Captain to Engineering. Are you there Blarney? Where is that damn Irsihman!

Mr. Blarn : Here sir. What can I do you for?

Capt. Burke: About 10 bucks but that's later. Right now I need all the engine power you can get out ot the gerbils.

Mr. Blarn: Aye Sir. I'll through some more logs on the fire.

Capt. Burke: Great! Mr. Solo lets get this show on the road.

Mr. Solo: What coordinates Captain?

Capt. Burke: Just head for that big unoccupied space in the middle of the map.

Mr. Solo: Course set in sir.

Capt. Burke: Let'er rip! Now everybody sing!

Mr. Smock: Do we have to sir?

Capt. Burke: Yes damn it! Sing like there's no tomorrow!!

You didn't mention your dastardly bombing raids on undefended planets.

Strategic update from Smegfleet HQ:

Our suprise attack on the Klingoff world of Klinshai was such a success, we did it again! Only this time with more ships! And we got to blast some wimpy assed Klingoff fighters into plasma.

The new building project called "Probe'm Deep" has meet with limited success. The Probes were built but seems to be stuck on the planet surface and refuse to "probe" anything much less space. (Bulldog - how did you mean these to be used, they won't move)

More Starships launched this month but we still don't seem to have this "faster than light" engine building thing right. Our dinky little fighters and bombers seem to be able to fly across the galaxy in a single month while our STARships put around like 20th century AMC Pacers. (Bulldog - I was able to move fighters from Outpost 3 clear across the map to Outpost 1 in one move wile my regular fleet moves at 4 hexes per turn - is this what you intended?)

Still all goes well in our "Peace through Superior Firepower" Campaign.

Smegfleet out.

Never mind... I'm an idiot.[X(][:-][8|] Things you build on a vacant spot creat a new unit that can't move until next turn... DUH![:'(]

Barthheart with regards to your 2 questions:

1/ Fighters/Bombers I put at long range as otherwise it was difficult for them to re-base between planets/starbases, that is the only reason. I can reduce their range in a future update if we find this makes
them too powerful. That's really easy to change. Build planet defence cannons or fighters on your outlying worlds to protect them against starbase squadron incurrsions.

2/ Probes have a very high recon value so once a fleet is detected they should be able to find out what it is made up of. Or put a few along your borders to warn of incoming fleets. You will have to create a new formation and put it in there on its own as it is useless in the HQ on the homeworld. I did try asking on the mods forum how to see more hexes away in a 'sea' location (which this unit was designed to do) but did not get any reply, I also made a radar post for planets but scrapped it for the same reason. The recon value only tells you the composition of enemy units. If anyone tells me the answer to this I will gladly update the scenario as the fighter/bombers seem to give a recon a few hexes away so I am not sure which valiable needs to be changed?

Hope that answers your queries.

1) Maybe boost the starship speed some so they don't seems ridiculous next to the fighter movement.

2) Yeah that's what I thought. Also I goofed on my first deployment. I'll let you know when I get that straightened out.

LOL, I only just downloaded that youtube song link. I remember that song from the 80's, heh, nice one Barthheart, brings back good memories  My first turn deployment is bad too as I had to give 20 PP to Seille I couldn't form any new formations and thus no troops to load onto my ships.  I agree with your initial asessment Mr Spock, the starships could be configured to go further, or we could limit the fighters somewhat. Perhaps a few turns will teach us the best configuration for future campaigns.

Can you give the PP´s away only in 20PP blocks ?
If yes, i suggest to make it 10 PP per transfer.
