pw data

Post by Ol_Dog »

I have used WITP in many subdirectories and 2 drives since it first came out. I have windows XP. Currently in the rhs 7 game, I get an error message when trying to start from a shortcut or running directly from the exe - "can not find PW data"

I first assumed the pwhex.dat was (1)missing from the root directory, (no), or that the last version was corrupted, so I (2)copied again the pwhex.dat to the directory, then tried (3)restoring the previous pwhex.dat version.

Is there another "pw data" file that could have gotten corrupted or lost so that it will not load upon start up?

Does it say only that? [&:]

i've not seen (or don't remember seeing) this exact error message before... this could be an RHS issue... you might bring it up on the Scenario Design/"mod" subforum as well.

Only thing else that comes to mind is Password... but i've not seen this particular error either.

Any chance you could do a screen capture and post the pic?

This doesn't mean - cannot find PWHEX.dat - this means cannot find one or more files that are fundamental to starting the game. Short version, reinstall, you are missing some files.

Thank you both

FYI - The exact wording in the MS error box on the black screen was

ERROR: Unable to find PW data !!!

I copied the files from the top subdirectory of another installation to rhs 7 and it now works fine - again Thanks

Well I have Dled 1804com.zip. It installs in C:\Matrix Games. I run War in the Pacific.exe same error. I have tried a dl three or four times with no difference. I tried to load the 1806 revamp.zip patch on top as well. Still the same...

I think the file onsite is corrupted:)

There is not enough information to determine the exact issue. But I would suggest uninstalling, removing, deleting any WITP pieces you can find on this machine and then reinstalling from original media (your CD or original download media setup file). Once you have done that - and before downloading any patches, just try bringing the game up. If it does not come up - that will send us down one path - if it does come up - then we go down another path. Time to get "methodical".

Hi,

I removed everything related to witp and reinstalled 1804 comprehensive update with same error. I then downloaded and tried to install on my business PC and got exactly the same error!!! At no point does the program ever try to install a shortcut...WITP has never been on my business PC before...

Are you sure there isnt a bad copy on the server?

Did you install the game? The 1.804 is a PATCH, not a complete game. Do as Joe asked. Take everything off and install the base game and see if it installs and runs properly. DO NOT INSTALL THE PATCH.

The compreneshive in the patch name means you can patch any previous version of the game using it. You do not need to use any of the earlier patches and it makes no difference if you start with version 1.0 or 1.8, it will patch any versino to 1.804.

There is no "complete game" on the members download area. You either get a complete game by purchasing the CD version of the game, or by purchasing the download version of the game through Digital River. Matrix itself does not have a full download version of the game, Digital River only has those. Matrix has only the patches.
