Whats new in this game?
There are games like Commander - Europe at War, Strategic Command 1 & 2.
It makes me wonder what this game can offer so special, that its worth the money. When I looked at screenshots and readed some forums. There seem to be nothing. Only thing I can see, is freedom to choose and play with minor countries. At the end it is not enough. Can someone tell me something I might not know?

I too am considering this game. But the one thing that does stand out from the other games you have mentioned is the scale. Division/Corps level. Gives a better feel to a game.

RE: Whats new in this game?
One of the things that makes me very interested in the game not mentioned, is the map. Huge, and from the screenshots, it's finaly great to play with something smaller than full armies and still cover the whole of the european theatre.
RE: Whats new in this game?
I'm playing Strategic Command-2 (SC2) with both expansions and so far I have not read anything that would even begin to make me want to play this instead. [&:] I'm watching everyday though, so someone come up with a few wonderful features to cause me to consider buying?! [&o]
RE: Whats new in this game?
Didn't play Commander, but I can add few other differences between WW2 and SC2:
+ Slightly different movement/combat model. In SC/SC2 you move and stop/fight and combat is always 1 unit vs 1 unit. In WW2RtV you can move and fight as long as your unit has Action Points left (which adds more flexibility) and you can attack from many directions
+ Convoy system is more sophisticated, player can create cusotm supply/material convoys.
+ Navy management is simplified in terms of user interface, but algorithms for naval detection/combat/convoy interception are complex
+ Few more diplomatic options then just "declare war" and "influence nation". Theoretically each neutral can change their alignment and join other alliance.
+ Much more sophisticated and flexible event system. Writing your own custom events is very easy with good XML editor.
And scale... Have a look at these pictures and you'll see how much potential WW2RtV has. These are the shots from the experimental world map.

By this "experimental" world map, are we to assume that the game is to be exanded to inlcude the Asia/Pacific war?

You can't fight in here...this is the war room!
RE: Whats new in this game?
I am sorry but I can't tell anything at the moment.
RE: Whats new in this game?
With an Asia/Pacific theater it would greatly increase my interest. I already have CEAW so I already have a similar game on the European theater.

RE: Whats new in this game?
I have only just started to play this game but so far I am impressed. Huge map, great scale and, to me the most important thing, the game is written by obvious wargamers that have a commitment to their work. If you are one of those who want a perfect peice of software for your £25 then I would suggest waiting.
But if, like me, you want to get your hands on what could probably be the best Strategic WW2 wargame around in a year then buy in early, give them your bug reports/ideas/wish lists and watch this grow.
For me, playing it is like being back in 1980 and finding my first wargame, Avalon Hill's D-Day, in of all places Harrods. Never looked back since.
Apologies if you want a more detailed breakdown, Im sure someone else will give that, but I am so impressed with this I just wanted to impress my enthusiasim on you
And just toprove it's not perfect see my 'Para' thread in the bug forum. Lost my airborne guys and I still think it is the dog's gonads.

My god I think I just wet myself looking at the maps and what this engine can do. Guarantee if you can convert this game to a world scale and make it moddable so if players don't like how the scenario is or how combat works that they can change it..... it will be the best WW2 grand strategy game EVER!

I hate the turn allotment in SC2. If you move a unit and it still has AP's left and you leave it, you lose them and you can't move anymore or shoot until next turn. [:@]
No custom convoys in SC2.
Navy management in SC2 is the same as land units, just move them. [&:]
Declare War and Influence Nation are all you get for diplomatic options in SC2. [:@]
The events in SC2 work with scripts. They are many and easy to do. I haven't done any but it looks easy enough.
Well it's looking better and better. I am in no way looking for a perfect piece of software. I know better than that. I just have so many WW2 games, I am trying not to acquire anymore unless they are a must have. [;)]
Thanks for your post and pictures. [&o]
RE: Whats new in this game?
Those shots look great !!
Love the scale of this game already... if it was to include the rest of the world it would be unbeleivable.
I love HOI2, but i prefer turn based and it always bugs me that you have a province with say 20 divisions in it as one unit all bunched up , with the scale of this game your units are dispersed better and it 'feels' much more realistic.

RE: Whats new in this game?
Also - are there any viable benefits to certain non-historic options? Vichy seems one, though I would increase the Vichy diplomacy cost. The others not so much, for example there should be some benefit, say economic, to having Italy enter war later lets say.
I also suggest lowering Italian start levels on tech - Artillery should be 1 not 2, and Air lower also.

RE: Whats new in this game?
My gods, if you make the game as big as those experimental shots (global map/theatre) then I will, I will, I don't know what I will do but it will be something very nice.

RE: Whats new in this game?
I like to thank about good answers. Good argument and nice pictures. I am total strategic wargame fun and I own most, if not all of them already. I bet this game will be one of those sooner or later. Right now I keep watching what is going to happen with this. If nothing, then this game will fall in darkness... but also active support and advanced patches may lead it to a history like some famous ones (Grispy's War in Russia, Class of Steel etc.)

RE: Whats new in this game?
This game reminds me more of SPI's Global War. And with the new maps and possible expansion, it should be fun to play a grand scale game.

Be assured that this game is actively supported - I think the reported issues will be all fixed up in the first update or two, from what I've seen. Beyond that, there are plenty of good ideas for how to move forward.

RE: Whats new in this game?
Yes comrade but my question to you is this.
At world scale with world number of units.... will you need a supercomputer just to do all the calculations?
Grant it since this is a turned based question speed is not so important.
This is not a negative critism just wondering if you had done the math on that.

Screenshots look great. The pacific theater would work well with this engine, how would the fleets be handled though?

coreymas,
i hear what you are saying about game speed, but the ww2 rtw map is big and the ai turns go really quick, so even accomodating the whole world, it hopefully woudnt be too much of a drag - or is this just wishful thinking on my part cos i want to see this game so much[;)]
