We need to discuss the Beta

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

We need to discuss the Beta

Post by stone_ »

I was reading in one of the forums that Shannon was considering releasing a "beta version" of the game to those of us who are willing pay and play an "unfinished game".

There were some in the forum who adamantly opposed this. I read that some were afraid that the game would receive "bad reviews" from the critics."

What???

The critics???

This isn't Fallout 3 for crying out loud!

This is a statistical "what if". I really don't think that there are going to be a lot of "moms" running to the Matrix site to down load the game for their kids to play. And besides, any "Critic" who dared to criticize a beta release of the game would be inundated with e- mails and slammed on the blogs from those of us who purchased the game "as is". The game critic would have no credibility and be "out of business".

Obviously, the sale of the game would be restricted to those individuals willing to check the box which says... "I agree" (regarding the fact that the game is a beta version... all other warranties are void.

The benefits of an early release far out weigh the cost.

First of all, I see that this forum goes back to 2004. Lets see.... that means that this game has been in development for 5 years. The trouble is that technology continues to advance. My fear is that the game will be considered obsolete before it becomes available to the public. Secondly, the feedback from the "hardcore" fans willing to put their money mouth is would be invaluable. (I can tell that by reading the forums.) Last but not least,
Shannon will be able to generate the cash flow. like any venture, cash flow is the key to success. It should help Shannon to facilitate the coding process and complete a "classic" in the strategy game genera.

There is one other point....I want to play the game.

I really don't care if the game has bugs. Most of the best war games I've played were started "unfinished". My buddies and I would line up the plastic soldiers and wage war. The game would be played over and over until the rules were "finalized"...
