Progress

Command Ops: Battles From The Bulge takes the highly acclaimed Airborne Assault engine back to the West Front for the crucial engagements during the Ardennes Offensive. Test your command skills in the fiery crucible of Airborne Assault’s “pausable continuous time” uber-realistic game engine. It's up to you to develop the strategy, issue the orders, set the pace, and try to win the laurels of victory in the cold, shadowy Ardennes.
Command Ops: Highway to the Reich brings us to the setting of one of the most epic and controversial battles of World War II: Operation Market-Garden, covering every major engagement along Hell’s Highway, from the surprise capture of Joe’s Bridge by the Irish Guards a week before the offensive to the final battles on “The Island” south of Arnhem.

The bridge that spans the railroad near Losheim, northwest of Ormont. This bridge was built in the 1950s or 60s, most likely, as the original bridge had been demolished by the Belgian army, during the German advance in 1940.

Quite some documentations describe Peipers crossing of this chokepoint (which doesn't look "tank-friendly") as a big mess/chaos, although the terrain was almost flat on the other side - where Peiper's column got back to the road.

Goodguy, we were everywhere from Minden on the Sauer to Monschau on a 5 day tour. We played wargames at night in rented bungaloes near Malmedy - It was a blast (It was my 4th tour.)

We drove Lehr's route from Eisenbach to Marvie, 2nd Panzer from Dasburg to Foy Notre Dame, 116th panzer from Lützkampen to Hotton, Peiper from Scheid to Stoumont Station (get lost everytime around Ondenval), and 12SS from Hollerath to Butgenbach.

Lyle Bouck's foxholes at Lanzerath, 393/99th foxholes in the Dreiherrenwald, Easy Co foxholes in Bois de Jaques (tourists have trashed some of these [:@]), Charles Mac Donald's positions above the Jansbach, The bunker Peiper hid in during the air attack near Cheneax, Mont Rigi drop zone. You name it, we were probably there!

yes we saw most of the museums, including La Gleize and the MkVb, and the new one at Baugnez which was really top notch.

Others we see on the tour is the Bastogne Historical Center, Diekirch (one of the best), and Poteau (we even did the halftrack ride a couple of years ago). We are never in Clervaux at the right time to see the chateau museum. I've tried to see the new Museam at Camp Elsenborn but it never seems to be open either.

Nice pictures-what a lovely place for a battle. I was in Rheineland Pfalz for 2 & 1/2 years, but never toured the battle area-sort of regret that now. I spent all my leave time in southern Germany (skiing).

The gully crossing location could have easily been a big mess. Approaching something like that with tanks in darkness without scouts having marked a route would not have been easy-or very safe.

It sounds like we are a month away (or less) from being able to buy the game[;)]. It is in my budget for the day of release.

there are some people here who did not know much about ardennes offensive, but are still very interested in the title. So, please give us a warning like a month ago, so we can start reading on it! [:)]

I think AA Games lose 90% of their joy when you kno nothing about the relevant campaign.

Yes Richard and his brother organised our tour and they set a solid pace, including stops at the King Tiger at La Gleize ( see below ) and Desobry's command post. Well at least until the mutiny by those of us who really needed a caffein fix in the morning. Thereafter we stopped off and sampled the delights of different cafes throughout our travels and the tour became unofficially the "plaque and pastry" tour.

I have a copy of the After the Battle book by Jen Paul Pallud. It's a meaty tome and its excellent.

Grestok,

We do plan to put out a demo for BFTB. But it's not ready yet. We will make an announcement when it is.

BTW just as a matter of interest, how many hours over the last month do you reckon you played COTA?

Arjuna,

Game time and reading time of different manuals (which I see as the game time in fact[:D]), I would say about thirty hours in the month .... which is a lot compared to my planning...charged.....

So about a third of your time. OK then how long have you been playing COTA for? Is this your first, second or third month or whatever? The reason I'm asking is I'm trying to guage how long it takes for users to get up to speed with the current manuals?

Did you go through the tutorial and tutorial manual or did you just dive straight in?

I started on the demo of Airborne Assault in the fall of 2008, and then I bought COTA early January 2009. It is therefore 2 months that I spend much of my time on COTA.
I started the game without really read the instructions in detail for a few days......Then understanding the mechanisms - alone - I decided to really read the docs and follow the tutorials.....

Now, I think investing in HTTR shortly, to take advantage of other theaters of operations...

I said that in my case, I would be willing to pay more for the game to have a printed manual of good quality in the box.

COTA has been a great success in the French press ! Canard PC, PC4War et Cyberstratège..... The game has received very good scores ........

Just my .02, but Panther might want to run with this by adding campaigns/battles that may be of interest to our French brothers. 1940, Bir Hachiem, Italy, S. France-vosges.

I really liked the one that came with Red Devils Over Arnhem.

I'd definitely pay $20 more for a game that came with that kind of documentation.

A separate possibility might be an ASL-style binder with ALL the AA docs in it.

Of course, folks can always get the current docs printed up, themselves.
