Battle vs Campaign

Post by loyalcitizen »

Question:::: Does the Ai know when it's in a one-shot battle and when it's in a Grand Campaign? I'm talking different coding of priorities and tolerances for casualties.

I ask this because I'm playing a GC right now as Germans. The Ai usually takes a few Victory locations, losing about half their forces. Then it pays no attention to the (oddly) public Force Morale and charges towards more Victory Locations. In the process it loses another 20% and the battle ends due to Allied Force Morale breaking. It then loses all of the VLs that it fought so hard for. Just dumb. Can the Ai please take advantage of the public Force Morale before it decides on new objectives? Why would it continue to charge when it can see that the enemy has taken 3% casualties and they have taken 50% ??
This is a GC, not a single battle. Should be coded differently.

Before you ask, I am forced to play the AI as I can't make a connection to anyone, despite my port setup conforming to CC's exact needs. Been trying for hours every day over the past 5 days. Need a new site for game hosting, please.

Good feedback on the AI. Additional changes to take more factors of a campaign into account makes sense....

Playing the AI is just down right not human! [:D]

Just my 2 cents for U. If you are running a linksys router this might help.

Ports:
2108 to 2110 both
1939 to 1945 both
2300 to 2400 both
47624 to 47624 both
6073 to 6073 both
to your target IP address (mine was 192.168.1.100), pretty much standard if its your main machine on your network, but make sure in your local network table.

Also very important, if you have hamachi or really any other type network like it installed on your machine, you must DISSABLE it at network screen, just turning it off isnt good enuff.

I hope this might help you get connected to a worthy opponent!

Most people I have talked to have ONLY been able to connect through Hamachi. I didn't even install Hamachi until after the first hour of trying to connect, so that isn't the problem. I don't have a router, so that isn't the problem either.

I had a thought on some reasonable campaign coding....
The AI on the attack should seek to capture 2 VLs. After taking 2, it should check the force morale. If it's FM is higher than the opponents, then the AI seeks another 2 VLs. If it's lower, then the AI seeks out 1 VL. When the AI's FM drops below 50%, it should switch to defending or ask for a truce and not risk losing the captured VLs due to breaking.

I can say this first hand, if the person I was playing had hamachi enabled, I was never able to connect up to them unless I enabled mine and we played thru hamachi. For some reason hamachi will mess up your router to the point it can't connect up if you are trying to play regularly thru the games IP. To play old CCV I had to bypass my router to play, but WaR, COI and TLD seem to have no issues with a router. Only issue I could see would be your firewall or somethg on your opponents end that isnt right. Have you tryed to play someone that has been able to connect to someone else in a H2H game?

Unless you tie both hands behind your back and let your dog move the mouse and then let the cat do the clicking, I dont thk the AI will ever measure up in this game for a GC. I feel for anyone who cant connect up with someone else because this game is so awesome and it seems there are plenty of people out here (all be it a small community)that want to play this game once you find them!

Hamuchi works as advertised. I've been playing H2H on it for a while and have never had a game freeze or disconnect. You can find it at Mooxe's closecombatseries download setion.

re: "does the AI know..."

Does it know when its winning the battle for VLs as well as FM?
The relationship of those two scores should influence its behavior.
An Allied AI should also be weighted toward taking exit VLs to maps it doesnt possess.

Speaking of camps (and ops)...where are the wrap-up screens showing level of overall victory based on total major VL holdings ?
As Señor Drill notes, after the last battle in an op/camp, you get the post-battle details then an unceremonious advance to the Command screen.

Ive logged a lot of hours with hamachi as well and generally speaking it works fine (I can tell you right now the game will still crash using it or not). Take note if they display a downtime due to service, that was one few times I had issues (it was several hours before the service stop and the connection just wouldnt hold for more then 5 to 10 mins at a time).

So far got thru all night and starting day battles in TLD at 30m with no crashes playing thru IP of the game. Also had great luck with WaR (100+hours) playing someone 6 time zones away.

I feel for anyone with connection issues, but I must give congrads to matrix on the H2H connection provided by their last 2 releases of CC.
