Request: 11-man Pitching Staffs for the "Closer" Era

Post by KG Erwin »

I think this needs to be addressed. Simply put: IF the 5-man rotation and "closer" options are chosen, then the pitching staffs should default to 11 (5 starters, 5 relievers, 1 closer).

Some teams (like the Pirates) carry 12 pitchers and 13 position players. 11 pitchers should be the minimum.

What do you guys think?

Second.  With a 10 man staff, most of the relievers are tired every day.

KG ...

I have found back in the 1900 era in my association, that I have had employed 9 pitchers because of their rubber arms and the ability to deliver was more manageable until in later era - 1930s onward ... Yes, 11 is about right for the modern era ...

I will third, forth or what ever number is next on staring out with at least 11 man pitching staffs for current era associates. It is usually the first thing I do when gettting started is add another reliever to the major league roster before starting out.

why bother ?

it doesn't hurt the AI to be tired, and you are going to do what you want with your roster, when you manage, so you can make the changes to your team

the AI pitch hits for it's players more then a player does, so it needs the extra batters

Not me. I usually use up my whole bench most games.

I also usually add another reliever or two.  Relievers just don't seem to have enough endurance when you only have 10 pitchers.

I agree

but the point I was trying to make, I do not think the game "knows" a AI releiver (havn't tried with one of my own) is tired/worn out, I don't think it gets the triggered that they are now tired and needs to be pulled

(IE, a feeling good pitcher, with a end of 8, will pitch a inning or so and the AI will replace them, but the same pitcher, who is very worn out, will come into the game and stay in for 7-8 innings and pitch great, since they are tired to start with, they do not get the decline in there stats that a good pitcher would, when they become tired)
