Air divisions

Post by Uxbridge »

Testing some more, I have found a rather good use for the air divisions after all.

Refering to this thread: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2167697

I'm thinking about reducing them to 2 points of strength and make them much cheaper. They can function as reconnaisance units and shore based naval assets, guarding places where you wan't some cover, but don't fancy spending lots of PP's. Of course, coming in contact with the air armies it is "good night" immediately!

My sole question to Doomie is: will these air divisions have an equal chance of hitting a naval unit as full strength air armies?

Leaving the ultimate answer to Doomtrader, I can say that in my sea zone attacks mentioned in another thread, at least half of my air units were divisions.

I have been using my Air Divisions against Minor Countries until I could afford to upgrade them.  Hadn't thought of using them as recon and Naval Interdiction forces, that is a very interesting idea.

Oh, yes, unless I change that. But have a 1 strength unit the same chance of hitting a naval target as a 8 strength unit?

After manual:
"If Air Unit finds enemy, it has ten trials to hit Naval Unit. Each chance is equal to 5% multiplied by actual air unit’s strength (so Air Army with 8 points of strength will have 40% chance to deal damage). Successful check deals 1 point of damage to a random naval unit in enemy fleet."

It is also easier for Navy to destroy such Air unit

Thanks, Doomtrader. You posted this after I went for holiday, so I didn't see it until now.

In that case I will change my new cheap 2 point units back to 4 points, since it makes no sense having them too weak.
