strange combat report

Post by ewald »

Hi Guys,

Great game, been playing Coral sea scenario.

Saw a strange thing in the combat report, but this could also be that combat reports are
always incorrect due to simulating intelligence errors.

At a may 06 1942 , CL Yubari was bombarding Port Moresby, and in the same combat report
this cruiser was attacked by me at Milne Bay 103,130.

Is this normal in combat reports, or is this strange.

Regards,

Ewald.

Remember, with FOW on, ships can be misidentified during the replay.

Chez,

Thanks for the quick reply, it sounds logical that FOW would
create such Combat reports.

Regards,

Ewald.

In Wienie Roasting I had CL Java and DD Sims reportedly sunk when in fact CL Tromp and DD Stewart were sunk. [:'(]
Lucky for you, tonight it's just me

Yes, FOW is nicely designed at every level.

In Guadalcanal two surface TFs and several carrier air strikes of mine did fight on the same day/night the BB Yamato at three distinct places !
And did sink her here, crippled then pursued overthere, 3 torpedoes there... After the campaign I checked the jap saved turn (end of september)
and discovered a lot of such great FOW errors. In this case, the Yamato escaped with few damages and another BB was sink and another sent
back for heavy repairs. Also, 25% of my information about sunk units was false a that time (I was not aware that the two jap CV were sunk after
my only succesful strike with few bomb hits, by pursuing in storm/bad weather I was only abble to catch CA/DDs ar away... indeed the lone escort
escaping!). Not sure what the "sink" reports could have been if two "Yamatos" were sunk the same day !

Look at the OP reports each turn, sometimes (several weeks later) you have a message saying that "intelligence learned that such ship was sunk
close to here at about the 18 of august"... I missed them in my first Guadal' : they are useful !

There is only two kinds of operational plans, good ones and bad ones.
The good ones almost always fail under unexpected circumstances that often make the bad ones succeed.

I had a report of a Japanese CL being sunk during one turn and a report a couple of turns later that the first report was in error and that the CL was still in service. I do like what has been done with this...

During the war, Tokyo Rose reported that the USS Enterprise had been sunk five or six times.....
