interesting air training phenomena -- bug or feature?

Post by Central Blue »

I have noticed that some of my air units train, even when they have been stood down. Of course, some don't train much at all -- the slackers.

Is this something that I should document for anyone? Because I really don't mind if my guys can train without operational losses. In the cases where I have noticed it, there does seem to be a high ranking, high experienced, officer leading the jaw sessions.

I tend to be bad about the peculiar things, because peculiar things happen during war. Rails not working as expected in Oz or India? I just thought it had to do with labor strife, anti-colonial sentiment, or other consists getting a higher priority than troop trains.

That is interesting. I have not noticed that yet. Maybe your guys are more studious. Reading books, doing calcs etc while standing down. I think all of my guys are out drinking and chasing skirts.

well, haven't seen xp gain while 100% resting but I'm starting to wonder about something else I'm seeing with training and whether I need to start keeping detailed records to see if it's really true: The manual says you're supposed to gain more xp from combat missions than training - and that seems to be true for bombing or fighter missions/patrols where you actually encounter the enemy, but for things like ASW and Naval Search it seems like "training" gives good xp but real missions gives you nearly zero xp.

Naval search and ASW only give Xp when you spot an enemy....

As naval search is toned down severely in AE, you wont gain to much XP flying those missions...

Yeah, I to ohave noticed that when putting my resting squadrons to (say) training 20%,  only c.20% of the aircrews actually do seem to do some training.  All the others sit around with 'nil' missions, presumably they are all off-base on some 48-hr pass lasting a week or so...

I think thic could be a "carryover" from witp system where units leaders skill and leadership alone could raise pilots experience.

I think that you squadrons os ASW and similiar get exp only when they spoot enemy is bad. IRL crew allways get exp from flying these missions - mainly fly hours, onlyest difference with spooted enemy is sending of radio message, which is not hard after all.

I've seen the same thing happen.  It also appears to be the very low skills.  Maybe their thinking of their first combat mission and how much they would like to see home again?[:D]
