Would you wait for the first patch

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Well I don't know exactly what is causing the slowdown in terms of hardware/software/bugs...but there is a definite link to the Target Damage highlight button.

Like you I wonder...did no-one use Target Damage in testing? It's a very important button.

However, I'll be more than happy with my purchase when this issue disappears.

if you look at any of my AARs you will see I use nothing but the Highlighted Damage, these were not a issue except for people with Quad Cores systems, and not every Quad Core system has this trouble

my Vista 64 runs the game better then any of my other computers, and from the Forums, it looks like AE was caught by surprise by the same issues

I see....not a problem...I'll wait for the fix.

I was using it last night and whilst I had to switch on and off the Target Damage, I would prefer to have it on...so whilst I thought initially for me it was a game stopper, turns out I've worked round it

Also, I will try my Vista laptop. I'm not holding out much hope, it's not a gaming laptop...I can just play the odd strategy game on it. I'm interested to see if it has the same issue as the PC (the laptop is a Core 2 Duo)

Oh well, I couldn't wait... I don't have the hour glass (maybe because of playing in a window). The game is slow even running on just one core, so my guess is that on my pc its directdraw that has to be disabled.

Thanks for the game guys, looking forward to learn and play it. Off to read the manual. [:)]

I'm using all cores on i7 920 to get best performance and it runs super smooth (except for highlight damage). Is it even slow with them all?
I have directdraw enabled. (because I can't disable it) I'm running in a window too.

Ok, then I'm wondering whats causing the problem on my machine then? My map scroll is slow, units move like turtles etc. But I'm sure harley will come up with something ala the things done in Witp:AE which runs perfectly with the right command line settings.

After playing around and having graphic (direct draw off) and sluggishness issues  I think I will wait until the first patch before I start playing this game seriously.  One thing with Direct Draw off the screen moves too fast, I hope there can be a switch to modify the speed of scrolling.

Well I feel as though years have gone by waiting for this.....hang on! Years have gone by!! So had to buy it. I will have a little play around with it but will wait for patch before spending much time with it as still getting to grips with WitP:AE. BTW it seems to be running fine on a 5 year old dual core 2.2 with 2 gig ram XP.

Although having Highlight Target Damage on does seem to have a big impact on speed for some machines (mine included), I have found (after initially saying it's unplayable as you need Target Damage highlighted) that in fact the game is playable. Unbeknown to me, the targets actually change colour anyway, so highlighting makes no difference except to...erm...highlight. What I mean to say is, even without being able to use Highlight Target Damage, I can still see which targets are damaged

So I am a happy bunny for now...game is very playable and very enjoyable. If you can stay away from highlighting things, then the game runs pretty smoothly (though I do Set Priority to high and Set Affinity to one core for a little extra punch).

I'm having an absolute blast as the LW in BoB one week campaign! Punched a nice big hole in the CH and CHL radar and it had a big effect on my aircraft being able to get "feet dry" before they were bounced by the UK. It's also great seeing my fighters and bombers being chased over the Channel.

Love IT! [&o]

one thing about Highlighting target damage, to be honest, it is only needed during plotting, it really is not needed during the turn, other then to have more contrast, the missions know where they are going, so they don't need it

and during missions, if your on the attack, F2 is a good key, it turns off all of the target Icons, other then what is plotted to be attacked

Well the fact it's needed at all is an issue, because even during plotting, it makes scrolling the map for targets an issue.

However, I don't agree with you that it's needed (even though I thought it was needed)...all targets have a colour assigned to them reflecting damage...all highlighting does is put that colour around the damaged targets and a green outline round everything else. So there really is no need as the icons are already the colour of the highlight. It does make them stand out more and therefore some people may need them...but if your eyes are that bad, you probably shouldn't be sitting in front of a computer screen for hours on end anyway.

But I'm cool for you guys fixing it for the times when/if I do use it

I found Highlight Damage only useful when plotting, zoom on a very damaged city with targets, ie. Berlin late war.
It helps to make the individual targets stand out.

I've never ran them switched with it on.

Well, i want add my 2 cents.

1-add circle range for airfields, you select one and can see range by airplane type.

2-in defense add a button to highlight airfield with airplanes, sometimes is hard remember where are your air units.

3-this is a thing that i dont expect but... menu is a piece of ***** worst menu that i see ever.

4-when you select a target it could be a good idea see what planes are in range before add units to the attack, for example, i select one objetive and i see that i have X H-111 with full bomb capacity in range, Y JU-88 with half bomb and Z ME-109 with medium fighter time.

Game looks fine but looks for me very short in the interface part needs more help to players

Can you add a dialog box for button Recall All Missions or place it on the other side of the menu? If you push it mistakenly, so all fighters are recall back and the whole defense is ruined.
