Weather goes crazy when zoomed out

Post by Baron von Beer »

I noticed the effect of this a couple times, but shrugged it off as a compact weather front. Tonight I tested a bit after it happened again and found it can be easily reproduced.

When you pass time at the maximum zoomed out level, all cloud cover gets shoved into the top left of the map. Eg: Start action phase one level zoomed in, all is fine. Zoom out to max while paused, then back in, and pass time, all is fine.

Zoom out to max, pass time, then weather is FUBAR for the rest of the day. All cloud cover will generate in the upper left ~quarter of the map (Scotland), and disperse ~Newcastle or slightly farther South.

I have a few screens of it here. Starting out at 1 level zoomed in, then one zoomed out after passing time at that zoom level. That rough area is where all cloud cover appears and disperses for the rest of the day. (zooming back in does not fix it)

Also, the amount of clouds remains true to the weather report, just the entire maps worth gets thrown into and generated in that small area. Eg: If cloud cover starts @ 35%, as in the pics, it is quite dense. If it is 2% however, it is very thin, but only up there, you can actually see the patches warp when you advance time the first time.

For what it's worth, the area the clouds are restricted to, is roughly what the view area would be at one level zoomed in, if the window size were the same as maxed out. (If at one level in all the Propoganda posters and what not off to the right remained on screen.)

This only occurs in BOB, not BTR. Coincidentally BTR doesn't have that same reduced view area on max zoom out either.

Hi

I see the same thing... Eagle Day full campaign example...
On loading a save cloud cover is 9% at 2700ft at beginning of movement phase.
End phase and cloud cover 83% at 1300ft
Hit 'Start' cloud cover now 14% at 3900 ft and clouds go to top left corner

No zooming in or out at all, just ending the phases.

I don't think it affects the gameplay, that is on repeat tests the number of sorties on each side does appear to reflect the %cloud cover in execution phase i.e. more clouds less sorties

Great game though and exceeded all my expectations after having lurked on this forum for a couple of years.

Thanks to all of you who made this possible

I've noticed that when you are in the planning phase the clouds are different to the cloud cover when the Action Pahse begins. You just can't plan your raids whith actual cloud cover in mind brcause when you start the turn it could very well be totally other, usually for worse.

mgfoster, I thought that this change in cloud cover was a design feature and not a bug.

E.g. In the planning phase you get a "best guess" as to the weather for the next day.
In the action phase you get what the weather actually is ( usually worse ).

Could that not be it?
John Dillworth: "I had GreyJoy check my spelling and he said it was fine."
Well, that's that settled then.

That was my understanding of the planning -> action phase change.

What I was demonstrating was during the action phase. 1 minute you have scattered clouds across the theater, the next minute they are restricted to an artificial square in the NW of the map for the remainder of the day, and that it is reproducable with 100% certainty. [;)]
