Re Working

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Re Working

Hi all, is this a complete re-write of the original or just a update of the old classic?

Not really fussed either way as this little gem was a fav of mune back in the 80's/90's along with western front. As long as it works with vista I'm a happy little warrior.

The only thing I would say is the same as WIR is that Gary is writing it. Even equipment is so much more in depth, to every vehicle also...Ok heres a ss of a unit 19th PzD...I'm testing the 42 game...

"DAM" is "damaged", it's referred to squads, guns and AFV, "FAT" is "Fatigue", units with high fatigue levels are much less efficient.

Whats great about the game is FAT and DAM levels are reflexted during the turn. So it may start at CV 18 but after three attacks and movement, it may end the turn with a CV of 10. Until the next turn and even then supply, rest, repair, replacments kick in the supply phase. Even then it may not be CV 18 for while...

DAM I suppose shows losses in squads, or AFV, but is there anywhere that shows what the unit should have, or started with ( if a unit started with 100 Pz IIIj and now has 50, it is quickly clear how the unit is getting on). In the screen-shot for Pz IIIj it shows DAM as 2, is that 2 lost forever, or 2 on hand and in need of repair, or 2 that need to be sent to the unit, to bring it to established strength. I realise that in the end it's the overall combat value that counts. [:)]

So it may start at CV 18 but after .........it may end the turn with a CV of 10.

....and even then supply, rest, repair........Even then it may not be CV 18 for while...

it would be handy for a player to know, that, if the situaton does not change, that it will take "X" turns for the unit to get back to CV 18

Well thats tough to put your thumb on that. FAT is recovered well, replacements/equipment come quicker near railheads. Then there putting the unit into refit... You'll get the hang of how long it takes depending on how hard you ran them and the losses incured...

You can access this TOE info window from the unit detail window that was displayed above (click on the TOE text at the top right). This shows you what should be in the unit versus what is in the unit.

As for knowing how long it will take to build a unit back up with replacements, that's too hard to put a number on. It's based on equipment available, manpower available, distance from a rail head, whether the unit is set to refit (and possibly other factors I haven't even mentioned).
