BoB Strategy and Tactics

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

BoB Strategy and Tactics

Post by bdiamond »

Guys,

After getting my butt kicked playing the Luftwaffe in both the 40 and 41 campaigns, I thought I’d ask for some tactics/strategy help. I’m up in the air as to whether to play another 1940 Campaign, or try the 41 with the new OOB. Either way, anyone have any good advice on how to effectively neutralize the RAF and win the game?

Any tactics that anyone is willing to share is appreciated.

Thanks!

Here is a typical day
I bomb airfields in morning
I bomb radar with Stukas only mid morning. Only after the airfield raids
I coordinate the two raids so that the stukas see little fighter interception
I bomb long distance targets in the afternoon. Usually railroads and industry.
I do a few fighter sweeps before and after the days raids.
I bomb cities at night with all of Luft 5 and about 1/3 of Luft 2 and 3.
I usually have reasonable losses with this method.

Are you playing with the new OOB's? They seem to give the Germans an edge, in 1940 at least. Your Bombers will be getting more hits on the Brits and they will be getting less hits on you. Less crashes at Airfields too (?) At least that's what it seems like to me.

Still I won with Germans before the new OOB's by concentrating on the closest targets with the highest capacity. ignoring radar targets.

Give your guys a rest when the weather is >35%. Go after high capacity-low repair rate industry; trying to keep up with Airfield and radar damage repair rate is a losing proposition, but you have to maintain pressure to keep the AS number up! Don't waste resources bombing 13th Group, Bomber Command, or Coastal Command airfields.

Here's a dirty trick the German AI is playing on me: launching raids around dusk when my fighters begin standing down to a 60 minute reaction time. This make it nearly impossible for me to react effectively. I never would have figured this trick if I didn't play as Allied.

Every players S&T will be different, these worked for me.[:)]
