How do I open the Platform Editor?

Post by Akmatov »

Q: How do I open the Platform Editor for the first time?
A: http://www.advancedgaming.biz/wiki/main ... E:PE_Guide

This link from the FAQ leads to a dead forum.

I installed HCE and there is no Platform Editor choice/link in the opening page.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I reinstalled my HCE and added the two updates, should there be a run-time version of Access 97 present?

If you need the access 97 runtime after the updates it should be in your HCE directory called hce_art.exe

Thanks Tony. hce_art.exe is so not the intuitive name that I would have figured out by myself. I'm sure I have an old copy of Access 97 stashed somewhere, but this will help out till I find it.

I'm actually not especially interested in changing any data, but rather in understanding the various platforms and weapons capabilities. I'd really like to be able to generate reports so I could easily understand the capabilities of a platform and all it's systems, rather than digging it up on a series of screens. I think H3 has such a consoldated data sheet somewhere.

divefreak might even have some illicit goods for you [;)]. The PE (platform editor) could use more reports and Rene has lots of good ideas.

Speaking of which, once you have a feel for the data fields available and have a bit of time to digest I'd most welcome a Word document mockup of what report or reports you'd like to see and I'll keep those suggestions as a back-burner project (which sometimes get done sooner since they are easier [8D]).

Excellent.  I've fiddled around with a paper fill-in the blank report of ages, on and off.  But this is inherently silly since the DB exists now.  I'll have to see if I can teach myself how to do reports.  I'm guessing I'll need to dig up my old copy of Access 97 from whatever rabbit hole to which it has migrated.  I've gotten off the M$ Office merry-go-round and use Open Office these days for a word process and spreadsheet.

Again I'd ideally like to see an example in Word with a platform of the appropriate type shown which you can just as well make in Open Office Writer. Then I can create the report in the official PE so that everyone can benefit from your design.
