Patch progress?

Post by Pack Rat »

Just curious, I would rather not start more PBEM if it really close.

I know what you mean.

I'm waiting for the immortal leaders -bug to be fixed before I start another campaign.

We are currently working on other projects and can't say for certain when the next patch will be released. Likely at a minimum after the holidays.

We remain commited to improving SP:WaW but have to allocate our resources realistically if we are to deliever new and innovative games to you.

How about a 4.5 beta patch with working VCR if Tom has corrected the max size problem?

isn't it best to clean this up before moving on. I mean what are you guys gonna do in the future when you are selling games? ssi did the same thing.. allied general is a perfect example. they had future stuff on their plate and didn't clean up their bugs first. this caused alot of bad feelings that stayed with consumers. better think twice.

AckAck: While your comments are worth noting, so that the same pattern isn't set, it seems to me that Matrix didn't create this game in the first place, so that the situation isn't the same. They're merely improving a product by a previous owner with this one. In a sense, since this isn't their original product, when they patch, it often isn't really a patch, but an enhancement, though some of it is more truly patches, since some of the enhancements cause problems which weren't on the original product. That's my angle anyway.

Quoting myself:

"But if the file size in 2.3 was never bigger than 3 MB, and it always displayed the replay correctly, then the bug is somewhere else. As Tom has said, the replay file gets filled with unnecessary data, and that's the real problem. Of course increasing the size to 20 MB may be a solution, but it's not a very beautiful one."

I agree. I have SPWAW on hold until the replay bug is fixed (ok, I'm playing one PBEM game at the moment just to test my helper application). So SPWAW is really almost dead now... it is sad, because 2.3 worked so well.

well I hope at least the oobs are corrected soon, the german one is all messed up, also, only Airborne Troops should be able to paradrop, playin guys who drop engineers, snipers, mortars all kind of stuff....at least make "regular" troops suffer some casualties, lose a few men or something, if they are paradropped.
But you guys have done a great Job...keep it up

Actually it was I who said it, but anyway, that side isn't very likely to change. The max size should already be 20MB, but one of the numbers probably wasn't changed.

(And no, it isn't dead. Many who play PBEM among others would never go back to v2.3 just because that minor nuisance. Depends on how much of a prima donna you are Image.)

Hi all!

I got some PBEM games going and they are great battles, just because the VCR is not working doesn't mean you can't have good fights. You just have to change your play style a bit. It adds to the fog of war, plus a tad more taunting your opponent in your messages Image Adapt, Improvise, Overcome.

In fact it was Tom who said in our private e-mails that the recording gets filled with unnecessary data, and that in his test version this didn't happen. You said the same thing later... So if it didn't happen in his test version, I guess that it might be a compiler or optimization bug: debug version works, but release does not.

Increasing the size may be a solution, but it doesn't fix the bug which was introduced in 4.0.

At least the patch will come, that is important to me. I'm playing one pbem where we are wondering if I shot down planes carring paratroopers. The VCR shows somethings sometimes and nothing other times. Where did they go? New bug? We can't tell yet and may never know. I'll insist we restart because it's a league game, he shouldn't be penalized for bugs.

I think this brings up something we need to deal with in the near future. Matrix will go so far in their support, I've no doubt major bugs will be squashed. However I think we need to start talking about "unoffical offical" things, like oob's, icons, and the like. Sanctioned I guess is the word I'm looking for. Most major games have an offical fan site, I've always disliked this as it doesn't do justice to others. In this case maybe a web site for sanctioned items is in order, if it can't be done on the Matrix site. I will start a new thread to get some ideas.
