Options to use when setting up a new game

Post by findmeifyoucan »

I just purchased this game and not sure what options to setup with. One particular option I am not sure what to use is MFOW, Movement Fog of War. Do most people here play with it On or Off? What do you think would be most realistic? I will be playing at Normal Difficulty for my first game against the AI just to learn the game. PMEM after that. I am an experienced Europa (board game) and War in Europe (board game, SPI) player from the old days. :-)

Presently playing several games of WIPAE, PBEM now. I just couldn't resist this game though. lol

I play with Normal, basically, BUT, since I'm unfamiliar with hard-core operational systems, I play with Admin, Transport, and Logistics set to 110, rather than 100.  I've found it a pretty familiar kind of game under those conditions.

Movement Fog of War (TO ME!) just adds tedium.  It removes the color-highlighting that shows how far your selected unit can move.  Good players can figure that out for themselves by counting, but the computer makes it easier.  So I see no reason to go for that unless you're a historical stickler (heck, I wish I could rename "XXVIII" corps into "28 Corps" but that's sacrilege to many).

Agreed on the MFOW. This game is going to be complex enough without having to take extra time to count for every units movement. Besides it is not all guaranteed as you still have FOW.

I noticed the designers decided to give the infantry the option of "Force Marching" but no "Overrun" for armored units? This is where by an armored group is so strong it would have in normal combat automatically eliminated the unit with no casualties and so could eliminate the unit during movement by simply expending extra movement points and then continue moving on and engage some other enemy unit that it couldn't just walk over.

Or did I miss something?
