Unable to load troops in guadalcanal scenario

Post by mmelwing@ca.rr.com »

I have recently purchased the game and am playing the Guadalcanal scenerio. I cant seem to load any troops in Noumea or even Australia to reinforce my garrisons in Port Moresby and Guadalcanal. I have read and re-read the manual and cant figure out what I am doing wrong. Any advice for me ???

You posted in the wrong place, but one of the reason is, if the troops are in Combat Mode, you can only transport them using an Amphibious Transport. You have to set the units you want to transport (with a transport Task force) - the troops must be in strategic mode.

Look at the Taskforce you designed - if its Transport the troops must be in Strategic Mode.

If the task force is Amphibious then troops must be in combat mode

mmel, the transport TF should also "Dock" to unload, as it is faster. You can unload while "Undocked", but it is slow. It is sometimes advisable to break the TF down into small TFs while in small ports so that at least one TF can Dock and unload while the remaining ships use the slower "undocked" method. But, as Misconduct said, to transport, the units need to be in strategic mode. Normally, it is a 1 or 2 turn process to go from combat to strategic mode.

Finally, you can get good fast answers to such questions by posting in the section of the WitP forum for questions and technical advise. This section is for After Action Reports.

Enjoy your game and make sure to download and install the patches.

Hi Mark,

I'm new to this game as well and have been practicing playing the Guadacanal scenario.  I had the same problem as you.  If I may guess, it is probably the fact that the troops you are trying to load into transport ships are not subordinated to the proper command HQ for the specific base you are trying to ship them to.  You need to change the assigned "command HQ" of the particular unit(s) you want to move to the "command HQ" that has jurisdiction of the theater you want to move those troops to.  In order to change what HQ a unit is suboridinate to, you need to use political points.  Once you have enough to do that, the unit will be allowed to move to that theater of operations.

I hope this helps.

Only if the units have an (R) restricted command, in this scenrio most of the Australians are restricted.

Work your way through the explanations, one of them will work.

I also had this problem although eventually figured it out. I was hoping to use this forum for other problems i.e. how to implement a different strategy viz. concentrate all my efforts on Guadalcanal rather than split across several objectives.
Sooo, I found my way into the forums but madee ttle progress because the search engine doesn't seem to find Guadalcanal references or several other alternatives.
Is it the search function or is it me?
