Girlfriends are overrated. Me.....i plan on getting drunk tonight with my pal PennyLane....the Great Dane and her two cat pals...."Stupid Cat#1" and "Stupid Cat#2".....having just worked on the 42 grand campaign AE scenario all day today while Andy writes AI scripts for it.....with the Military Channel blaring in the background. (4 hours of Jimmy Doolittle's raid is enough!)

Thanks guys. LoL, always thought testosterone was an important component, but the hardware guys could always confuse me enough that I was never really sure. [:D]

So I guess the gaming part is mostly for motion processing of 3D graphics renderings? That makes a lot of sense to me. Most of the processing I do is iterative math computation aiming for convergence for finite element and finite difference kinda stuff. Not hard, just twiddle-your-thumb time consuming. My graphics have gazillions of verticies, but they are still flat, and don't have to move.

Okay, think I get it.[;)]

Ciao. J

It also has to do with the type of graphics being done. Most modeling programs use OpenGL (fire GL series cards) where as games use DirectX (most gaming cards). The iterative math you are doing is actually more CPU intensive than GPU intensive. A cutting edge gaming system will not work that well for Solid Works or Pro E (and the associated FEA packages or adams).

Well... I learned what the problem with DA2 is. The game was designed to run on one of your CPU cores while any save was handled by the other core (if I am using the terminology correctly). Now the specs listed for the game on the retail box clearly stated that the minimum required system is a dual core 1.8 Ghz. Since my system is an older Athlon single core 3.8 Ghz system I thought that I would attempt it. However, it was unable to save.

Fortunately for me, many systems that use multicore CPUs are apparently setup in BIOS to run as a single core (I'm not positive about this, but I heard somewhere that XP cannot take advantage of dual core systems so it works this way), so a lot of people were experiencing the same problem that I am. So Bioware just released a patch to allow single core users (and those whose multicore systems work in single core mode) to save the game. I just finished patching the game but haven't started it up to see if it works. Crossing my fingers...

It is likely a problem that the priority of the threads prevents the os from ever finishing one of them (the save) and going back to the game. On multi cores this would not be seen....

If that patch doesn't fix it you can try setting the priorities manually. Don't Go higher..... you can put your system in an endless loop....

Finally got around to watching "Better off Dead" tonight with wife unit.  It's an excellent anthem of No. Cal. / So. Cal. High School life in the mid 80s.

John Cusack was very good (an early role for him) and the plotline was absurd enough to be a real teen benediction.

Of course, "benediction" may not be the best term here.

Why?  Dunno.  Maybe 'cause I found a stash of aged Tequilla in the cupboard.
