WITP Newbe Question

Post by firststartup »

Hi all, This may be so simple but I'm playing without benifit of a manual and have been learning as I go. Anyway, It is 11/42 in the 41-46 Camp. and I am playing the Japanese. I thought I was doing OK and I decided to take Chandpur:

I now control it as follows:

Airfield size - 5
Avaition support - 298 +10
Control Zone - SW
Control - Human
Airfield Service Damage - 0
Airfield Runway Damage - 0
Support - 912
Support Required - 538

I brought up a large airforce and based it here. Consisting mostly of LBs. For example the 12th Hvy. Sentai (Sally) set as follows:

Attached to - 25 Army
Morale - 99
Fatigue - 0
Control Zone - SW
Control - Human
Set to - Ground Attack
Target - Dacca (one space away)
Nav. Search Level - 0
Altitude - 12000
Max Range - 8

Much to my frustration I can't get this unit (or any of the other LBs based here) to launch the attacks. If I choose a target it will accept the target but on the next turn I'll look and see that it has changed back to Comm. Disc. but will not launch any ground/airfield attacks in that mode either. I'v waited to make sure it's not weather issues. I have tried changing the HQs of this Sally unit to the tune of about 1000 political points and can't seem to find a combination that works. Fighters based here will defend the airspace.

I'm sure it's something simple that I don't know about but I just can't seem to figure it out, any any help would be appreceated. THANKS.

Could be various reasons for not flying.

Do you have fighters available to escort the bombers?  Protecting the base is one thing, but how about the bombers.  If there are enemy fighters expected at the target bombers tend not to fly unless there is an adequate escort available.
Weather in that area is tough on ops.  What was the weather of the day in question?
How is the supply situation at your base?
Todd

I never thought that doing an AAR would be so time consuming and difficult.

This is one of the most common questions asked, and there could be about 100 different reasons why the planes don't fly.

Often by flying recon on the target hex, planes will fly missions where they didn't want to before. Try that and see what happens.

EDIT: Check also your supply levels, and a screen shot might also help (of the base flying from and the base being attacked).

Thanks to both for helping. I moved some fighters in along with some rece. planes and we are now hitting targets. I did have some fighters on carriers docked at the same hex and had thought that these would provide escort but I guess not. I was kinda embaressed to ask and I appreceate both of you taking the time to help a new player out. Mike.

Never be embarrassed as the only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.  The game is so complex that we all continue learning things as we go along.

Your CVs operate at 50% of normal when in a coastal hex.

Recon helps with accuracy.  Fighters enable the bomber raids to fly in the face of enemy CAP.  Of course 4E raids outside of fighter range will fly if morale is high and fatigue is low, but it can be bloody.
