I just stepped in to make sure one of my favorites, the Brewster Buffalo was not being maligned.
What a marvelous warbird that was......once described as being too sloppy in the air to get out of its' own way....cornering like a rhino on a slippery mudbank.......[:D]

Geoffrey Fisken liked them.

In my opinion the most useless aircraft is the B-10 in the Phiippino airforce. Never seen them take off or do anything. Thankfully there are only 2 of them.

The Wirraway's problem is that one gets heaps of them and they jsut sit there - useless. Too many and too visible [:D]

There is also the P-26 which is only good for going down in flames.

Worst Dutch plane is the L-212 (?) - can only be used as a trainer because even Nates would rip it apart in no time

Fact is that most prewar aircraft can only be used as trainers at most since they'd be ripped apart by Japanese fighters. This also basicaly applies to the whole Chinese airforce until the arrival of the Vanguard and the bulk of the Soviet airforce in the early war. (Has anyone ever used the soviet fighters in Chinese service in battle?)

One interesting exception is the Mohawk which has served me well in intercepting deep unescorted raids over India and in the few times that they tangled with Oscars, they roughly have managed a 1-1 loss ratio or so.

Are you saying useless in game terms or real life? In other words...the Bolo to me sucks... however it is a good trainer and upgrades in the game....sooo??

Someone mentioned the Dutch Recon plane. Range of 3 hexes and doesn't upgrade...I would second your choice.
Life is tough. The sooner you realize that, the easier it will be.

Audax/Wapiti. Worse than Wirraway. Never saw anyone use them for anything but training.

I was gonna say the Anson (Right? That's how little I like it; I can't remember it.)

But nothing beats the Audax.

The Audax has a range of 3/4 which makes it a better platform for close to port ASW than the Wapaita (sp?) which has a range of 2/3.

Yeahbut that's like saying teats on a bull are more useless than teats on a boar.

The Wirraway was a 2 seat trainer which was forced into combat a few times out of desperation more than anything else. As a trainer its fine. It can even fly ASW and search missions at a pinch, but a fighter it is not. I have trained a good corps of Australian ASW and naval bombing pilots on Wirraways so I would contest its inclusion in the most useless list.

I have often wondered how many chromosomes the RAAF director of procurement had.

The only good thing one can say about the Wapiti is it was slow enough to not knock the turbans off of Sikh pilots.

I once saw a Vincent hit a sub.....well....... that is what the pilot said.

Lets not lay the fault of what aircraft the RAAF got stuck with at the feet of RAAF command. FDR and Churchill were the ones refusing to release aircraft to the RAAF. And so we had to get on with it and so that is why you have aircraft such as the Boomerang coming of the production lines at Port Melbourne instead of Spitfires and P.40s.

My position exactly. Thanks to the plethora of them every major port in Australia has the close approaches covered by airborne ASW.

Every plane has its uses , even as trainers.

wirraway , great trainers for ASW/N search/ naval bombing ..
Lysanders - useful recon planes , i use them in 42 extensively in Burma
Wapita + Audax, Again good naval personnel trainer, but some units cannot upgrade the plane types so don't lose any in combat !

BUT i really really HATE :- The Dragon Rapide .. Actually lovely looking plane IRL and seeing one resorted on a TV show was great. In game though they stink .. horrible range, and as they all appear Australian based they need range to be of any use at all. and long wait for decent replacements too. Trainers ? yuk , only transport or general training .. Stinks [;)].. Now if i could use them to train up US pilots for C47's they would be handy.

Any votes for the Lysander? In real life it was an "Army co-operation" aircraft (in the game it can't recon) and an excellent "spydropper". As a bomber, or fighter?........not so good.[:D]

No, I used the Lysander as a recon plane until I ran out of them. I found them to be very valuable for this as the Brits get absolutely no recon assets until mid war.
