Assault: Why is the colour light green?

Post by Fred98 »

Find attached a screen shot.

I am attacking an enemy unit from 4 sides. Each unit has 3 hits so in theory I can attack with 3 x 4 = 12 units.

I am attacking with 10 units.

Note that all the units are a part of the same regiment.

The attack will go in with 9 units.

Why has the computer excluded that 10th unit?

As all units are in the same regiment I would have expected them to be the same colour. Is the 10th unit not in command contact?

Cheers

That is the most likely answer.

I have seen a unit adjacent to a HQ, both in clear terrain and the unit is not in command.

This is from the Assault Phase Interface portion of the manual.

"Not all units can attack the hex jointly. Ground units that can attack the hex jointly (they share a common command linkage) are displayed on the same line. (If the list of these units extends to the next line, then that line will be preceded by the same shade of color. Ground assaults are preceded by shades of green, bombardment attacks by shades of blue.) All units on the same line or in adjacent lines preceded by the same shade of color are eligible to attack the hex jointly and all units’ attack factors will be combined to make a single assault."

I think this explains it.

That's pretty much it. Your last unit is either from a different HQ, or it is Out-of-Command. It will still attack, but it will go at it alone during the fight. This is one of the main reasons I try not to tangle up my divisions, and I make sure I keep my units within Command Range before an important battle.
