Weasels Shooting Everything in Sight - Really?

Post by bsq »

Playing Shamal and also a small scale modern Syrian scenario I am working on and the way that the Weasels behave is absolute madness.

F-4G's, F-16CJ/CM's are SAM Hunters, so why are they blasting off all their HARM missiles at anything that's transmitting including radars that, IRL, they cant even see even when in HAS mode?

So my Weasels leave their patrol area, take down every single EW or HF radar that they can (because they are all that is transmitting), then when the strike goes in that they were supposed to be protecting, they have nothing left but cannons and curses to take down the SAM's that are now wiping out the strike.

Of course this then is another issue, the Weasels are not WINCHESTER, but they are ARIZONA, so why do they stay in the target area and not RTB to get some more HARM's.

You shoot an ARM at a radar you want to suppress - granted, but there are priorities. You don't shoot at EW radars, you shoot at things that will actually kill you or that you are trying to protect. Jammers are what you use against EW radars not tactical ARM's. When you are out of ARM's on a SEAD mission you come home...

If you want to model SEAD, then please factor in priorities, pointless the Weasels shooting stuff that doesn't matter as far as package protection is concerned and then having nothing to take down the real deal.

Interesting, thanks!

The SEAD Patrol mission doesn't have the RTB When Winchester flag set by default. Have added a bug report on this. If you manually change the Doctrine/ROE/EMCON settings for the missions they will RTB :)

What's ARIZONA btw?

Agree that it should be possible to prioritize radar threats. This is a bit complex though, but have registered a feature request on it and copy-pasted your comments.

If you have more thoughts/input/ideas please do post up and I'll add them to the above feature request.

Thanks! [8D]

ARIZONA No anti-radiation missile ordnance remaining.

joint brevity words publication

I don´t see a point in being particular about the brevity in a game like this though.

Some control about the options of a SEAD mission would be nice though, like fire on acitvely emitting FCR only.

It's not about brevity, the point was that the way 'WINCHESTER' seems to be implemented is taken to mean any ordnance, whereas what it should mean is the ordnance required to conduct the assigned mission. So what I think is happening is that they still have Air to Air ordnance (2 x AIM-7) and are therefore remaining on station on that basis.

If I were being picky, I would wonder what the Iraqis are doing shooting anti ship missiles at my Weasels [:D] [:D]

VAMPIRE = Anti-ship missile
SAM = SAM

That is a great point.

Good point, that makes a lot of sense!

I think Vampire is any unidentified missile, not necessarily a SAM.
