[0.7.5] Replay locks up on first mission

Post by stilicho410 »

Situation: First mission, Explorer I, set up to launch.
When I click "end season" Explorer I mission commences. Playback screen comes up.
When I hit the "Play" button, I have no sound and no video in the playback window.
I do see the step name "Launch Preperations" appear, and the dots accumulate for a few seconds until "Success!" appears. The mission playback then seems to lock up completely.

Hello stilicho,

Not sure what's going on here. I have downloaded your savefile and it works on this end. Usually you'd get that problem if the animation files are not in the right place. Can you check whether you have a folder named "MissionBundles" under the SPM-Windows_Data subdirectory?

In folder C:\Program Files\Slitherine\Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager\SPM-Windows_Data\MissionBundles I see 256 files totaling 909 MB.

I could try an uninstall/reinstall. Do I need to do all 3 files when I reinstall?
1. Run BASPM-SetupRelease-v073.exe
2. Unzip SPM-Windows-0-7-4-Hotfix.rar
3. Run BASPM-UpdateComp-v075.exe

Incidentally, I had to manually download the update files. Updating from the front end always resulted in hang-ups.

Hello Stilicho,

You don't need SPM-Windows-0-7-4-Hotfix.rar, as all the changes from that hotfix are already included in 0.7.5. My suggestion is reinstall the game and download and install the latest patch (either manually or using the autoupdate tool). That should fix it, but let me know if it doesn't.

Thanks for the previous reply. I've now tried a couple of things.

1. Uninstalled program, re-downloaded BASPM-UpdateComp-v075.zip, (plus Saturday's 0.75+ update) and reinstalled. Error still occurs.
2. I also re-installed version 0.74 in a different folder, and reloaded a 0.74 savegame. Mission playback still works.

Tonight, I noticed the file .\SPM-Windows_Data\output_log.txt. I've attached the entire file to this message, but I believe this excerpt shows where I'm failing:

Loading mission bundle from: file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-01-00-S01.unity3d

(Filename: C:/BuildAgent/work/d3d49558e4d408f4/artifacts/StandalonePlayerGenerated/UnityEngineDebug.cpp Line: 53)

starting www download: file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-01-00-S01.unity3d
The asset bundle 'file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-01-00-S01.unity3d' could not be loaded because it is not compatible with this newer version of the Unity runtime. Rebuild the AssetBundle to fix this error.

I've checked the MsnSim file referenced, and they are exactly the same in both the current version and version0.74, and dated Oct 28.
I've also ran a data comparison utility on the entire MissionBundles folder. All files within MissionBundles are unchanged between the current version and version 0.74.

FYI, I have never successfully ran the "Update SPM" button from the front end menu, it always hangs up trying to make a connection. Instead, I've been downloading the zip and rar files directly from the update threads.

Anyway, I hope the output_log.txt file can be of help to you.

Error still occuring: Incompatible asset bundle

Post by stilicho410 »

I'm still getting the lockup problem, accompanied by the error below in output_log.txt. It happens on any of the initially available missions: Explorer, Sputnik, X-15.

starting www download: file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-00-00-S01.unity3d
The asset bundle 'file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-00-00-S01.unity3d' could not be loaded because it is not compatible with this newer version of the Unity runtime. Rebuild the AssetBundle to fix this error.

As I said before, I've reinstalled version 0.74 in a different folder, and it still works fine. So, I suppose the problem comes from some difference between 0.74 and 0.75.
I've attached a comparison report between my 0.75+ and 0.74 installations. The report is in html format. The 0.74 installation folder tree is on the left, 0.75 is on the right, with files differing between the two versions highlighted in red.

I've noticed that the MissonBundle files that are generating the "incompatible" complaint are all unchanged between 0.74 and 0.75+.
No one else seems to be seeing this problem, so what I'm wondering is whether the BASPM-UpdateComp-v075.zip I got from the update thread has all the latest files. (the Update SPM button from the front end menu doesn't work for me)

Hi,

I've installed the game twice, one by updating the game via the updating feature and the other by updating the game manually, and in under none circumstances the game crashed with stilicho410's savegame.

I've compared both files, the one via the update feature and the other the manually ftp download, and they are the same.

RE: Error still occuring with 0.76

Post by stilicho410 »

Well, I've updated to version 0.76, and this problem is still happening for me.

Could someone please provide more insight on what is going on when this message is triggered in output.txt?

starting www download: file://C:/Program Files/Slitherine/Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager/SPM-Windows_Data/MissionBundles/MsnSim00-00-00-S01.unity3d

What exactly is "Unity Runtime"? Is it intrinsic to the BSPM, or is it third party?
I see that a file called UnityEngine.dll under .\SPM-Windows_Data\Managed that has changed since version 0.74, which was when I could last run missions.
Are any files involved in this check besides UnityEngine.dll and MsnSim00-00-00-S01.unity3d? (The latter file is UNCHANGED since 0.74.)

Could my Windows version be having any effect? I have an older machine that's still running XP Service Pack 3. Is everyone else running Windows 7 or 8?

Is Java involved in any way? I'm currently running Java Version 7, update 45.
Thanks,
Stilicho

I've sent you a PM. I'm a bit puzzled since no one else seems to be experiencing this issue, but hopefully we'll get this sorted.

Cheers,

I have stopped playing due to this glitch. And I do not want to unpack/unzip and place any files. To much trouble. I can easily play other games for now.

PLEASE PUT THIS FIX INTO PATCH .77. I will then come back to playing this game.

Yes, don't worry, I had already planned to put this into 0.7.7, which will be released this Friday. I just wanted to let everyone else know in case they bumped into the same issue and didn't want to wait until the patch gets out.
