If you don't already know this you can take care of it by using a Mavis (PBY or any seaplane, not floatplane) to fly some AV to a remote base to support A/C that way. When done just pick 'em up. And, yes ground based aviation support will support seasplanes/floatplanes.

well this stiked me now, what is difference between seaplane and floatplane ? i asume that seaplane is NOT amphibibius. Or it is this that difference ?

Wiki explains better than me but flying boat and float plane are seaplanes. Float plane are amphibious too.

Its really just game semantics. The difference in game is that refering to a floatplane means a smaller single engine A/C that can't transport anything (except maybe a small bomb or two[:D]). While on the other hand a seaplane (flying boat) has the ability to transport troops/supplies (even the ones that are not solely dedicated to the role).

It would allow me to use air HQ’s to work several bases instead of just one.

Note that in general only one of the subunits will be the parent and function as the HQ. (Although I have on occasion fragments retain torpedo ordnance, which maybe would work depending on what the code checks are. But it seems to be a "sometimes" thing anyway).

But for peeling off a handful of AV for a remote base, works fine.

the PBY-5 and its amphib version, the PBY-5A. Both can be supported by AV tenders, but only the 5A is able to land at inland bases while the PBY-5 is restricted to ports.
Exactly!!! This begs the question, then why is the 5A not supported by land based air support squads? It can roll into a hanger, doesn't need cranes, etc... but yet it is not supported and must have an AV. So in truth "wheels" or no wheels is not the differentiator in terms of what aircraft are supported by what air support units.

This is not the case. I use wheeled cats from interior bases at times and frequently support cats at port bases with only land based air support. Air support is air support and if present in any type of base unit will support any type of aircraft flying from that base. The AV and realted type vessels allows support of float and amphibian aircraft only. The can add support at a base that does not have enough land based support but only for float type planes. They can also give support from under developed bases including dot island bases that have no airfield or base support force. However, if a base has sufficient land based air support, they (AVs) serve no real purpose.

And if I recall, cats and float planes flying from a dot hex when supported by an AV can fly attack missions and use ordinance, but I may be fuzzy on that one..

The cats and float planes flying from any base (not just dot bases) which lacks sufficient supplies for flight operations, will instead consume supplies carried on board the aircraft tender vessels.

Speaking of AVs, do they function like CS when in convoy? Do they launch and recover planes en route or only if anchored in port?

Only if they have an 'aircraft capacity' listed.

Many do.

So, they can be used as NavSearch in ASW TFs or spotters in resource convoys?

Yes, as jap I do that and found it really usefull. It's not necessary to put supplies in AV so she is use like a normal cargo except she carry float plane.

I start doing this with CS but CS are too expensive in fuel and having so much float plane isn't really usefull to protect convoy. It's more usefull to use them as support for ASW task force in the middle of sea, keeping them in a hex which doesn't use fuel.
