RTM (Race to Mars)

Post by n01487477 »

Anyone know much about this ? Swedewolf ?? I see the same name on that forum too ...

I was wondering if it was worth the early alpha purchase. $20 is a bit steep for so little info.

The kickstarter failed
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/int ... sts?page=4

But they are going with Alpha funding ...

[edit] And I have no intention of taking the focus away from BASP; I think space enthusiasts would buy anything (good) available to them ;-) I know I'll be looking for early access to BASP which may be just a few weeks away...

Hi
Im swedewolf.
Im a possible customer like you. I have found this 2 games that I really want to play and as my interest is on this subject since baby strawler time I asked both developers if I could contribute with clips and articles that can interest you others about this thrilling concept. To be frank, the verbal(posting) response has been low, but the hits on the other hand had been rather the opossite. And I thank you guys for that.
I for sure is one of those that gonna buy the open beta, when it arrives later this month. If you want more info about the game, you should also check the developers postings in the Slitherine forum. That is the company that develop it.

Me my self have had lots of fun posting these videos and learned lots about this period that I probably hadnt looked for otherwise.

cheers
SwedeWolf

That's fine, don't worry about it. I also believe there's room for more than one space game [:)]

I'd never even know about this game if it wasn't for kerbal. Anything that creates interest in the genre. "a rising tide lifts all boats".

Thanks Swedewolf for your support :)

It's only a week till we release Race To Mars on Steam Early Access. Beside that, the game will of course be available on our website in DRM-Free version.

In the version that's going to be released 7th March it will be possible to test basic mechanics of the game and get to know the first space program. For us this is a beginning of even more intense work period, so we're counting for your support and feedback.

Feel free to ask anything :)

Early Access version of Race To Mars is already available on Steam! A lot of new features come with a lot of emotions. We’ve done it quite a few times and we can honestly say it’s really fun to launch your satellite into space. You should try yourself :)

I am interested in that Planet Explorers as well which looks potentially interesting whilst I wait for Kerbal's new patch and of course the great impending arrival of Elite Dangerous. Can't say I like the look of Race To Mars though - just looks like a business management game to me.

"Lifeless planet" is a adventure/exploration game, no (a little bit only) violence, no management, no rocket, etc... you're lost on a planet, alone... it's average good but really limited...

You can also try "Take To Mars", another management spacesim, with some action steps (you deploy yourself the probe for example), but there is no rocket part... it's average good, but the engine is not bad at all.

Thing is for semi realistic program management and rocket building I have Kerbal Space Program, I think that is one of the best space games I have ever played. And for a historical spaceflight game I have Buzz Aldrin's Space Program Manager where the concentration is one reliving the race to the moon missions, seeing if you can do better than they did. And for a pure fantasy space game I will have the great Elite Dangerous (in a few months time). I think that is all the space games I can play for the moment.

These other indie games are all very much unfinished and ages away from having anything remotely playable never mind enjoyable. Seems that try to get people to buy into very very early alpha games is the in thing recently, personally I dont go in for that stuff. Got far too much finished stuff to spend my money on never mind nowhere near finished stuff.

Only if its playable and presently looks fun, and looks like it will only be a few months away from completion, and it looks really good will I possibly buy into an Early Access game. The only exception to this was Elite Dangerous, which is a sequel of one of my favourite games of my gaming life and as such I know it will be superb.

But otherwise, nah - lifeless planet, planet explorers, race to mars, space engineers, - they are all pretty much the same unfinished indie games that may or may not be interesting when they are finished, if they ever get finished.

Still they cant possibly be considered as bad as GOAT SIMULATOR! Now that game is really weird ... and slightly disturbing! I dont know about you but I actually find goats quite frightening, it should be given an 18 age rating really.

You are a bit hard, let them some chances, beside the money it's great to see so much people still having faith and sorting some great ideas or gameplays.
For example "don't starve" is a great little game in an other category.

Don't forget that BASPM is also a small team game.

I have accepted that Early Access of a Beta game is a good way of helping some creative and imaginative games get developed where you only have to wait for a few months to get the final product. But there are some developers who are releasing their games far too early - I mean before they are even remotely playable.

It just not on really, its like paying a deposit for something you havent even seen, and are not going to be able to play properly for a year or two at the least. And because I am sure many of those are younger gamers being swayed by pretty pictures and video, I feel there is not enough being done to prevent them being taken advantage of by these developers. It is true they are not forcing people to buy their games but I dont beleive either that they are making it very obvious just what the disadvantages are in buying their Alpha product.

And Race To Mars is the worst example I have seen of this so far.
