Ground combat at Wenchow (89,58)

Given that I have 3800 supplies, I will move one of the AVG air units for air cover to hit his bombers next turn. I have also replaced the leaders here and will hold until he brings the correct toys to get rid of me.

Night Naval bombardment of Moulmein at 55,55
I know overall this does not mean much but it again stretches him and hits him where he has no force. Also the longer he things the British CVs are in the Burma area the better. As this is the second time I have done this at some point he will need to send something to prevent me from hitting here or other areas. Plus is a way to slowly gain XP for the forces in the area.

KB and Mini-KB
Mini-KB + KB (?) were last seen supporting the Horn Island Invasion six days ago. Location unknown but due to radio traffic and the need for him to upgrade expect it it all at Truck.

Although you might be right about KB being at Truk, I wouldn't attribute KB's location to the need for upgrades. They don't hit until June and even then they aren't so urgent that it should affect where KB is based. I guess I'm saying it is just as likely to be at Rabaul, or prowling the eastern Pacific with a group of AO's in tow.

Part of the it is the need to upgrade and repair. But I am also getting a lot of heavy radio traffic at Truk......

21 Apr 42 - 22 Apr 42 Executive Summary

AirGriff continues makes some other small gains but no major action of note. Most of the work now is clean up to ensure he does not leave any base hexes in his rear.

Operation Chex
We are now four days into sailing the 3 US Fleet Carriers from Auckland to Christmas Island, target date for landing is still around May 1st. The Lexington has also departed Bremerton fully repaired with five DD escorts and will meet the rest of her taffy in route. Force Z (Repulse) will be in Pago Pago in two days. The Indomitable and is five days from Force H. Force H (Formidable) is sailing to the east of Christmas Island to clear the area for my replenishment Taffys.

Raiding
Submarine attack near Noumea at 114,160 SS RO-66 xAKL James Cook, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage (sunk)

Singapore
Two Land attacks and the forts fall to Level O. Most units are almost out of supplies but the I am still hurting him more that I am hurting but not for much longer. I have submarine transport missions but without SSTs I don't expect it will help a lot but anything you can do you have to do (most are 48 or 28supplies per run with 5 - 6 subs running at a time).

China
The Air War over Wenchow went well, we will stick around for one more turn in the hopes he can't mass too much in the area but I will leave next turn.

Line Islands
B-17s and Bombardment forces keep the port and airfields closed. The number of reported troops drop to ~1400.

Canton Operation
I have one US Inf Div, One US Inf Reg, two Combat Eng Reg and three US Art Bat's ready to go with preparation in the mid-20's to low-40's and climbing. Will require the carrier fleet and the fall of Christmas Island. There are 55 Heavy Bombers out of Pago Pago and Savaii that have started bombing airfield damage is at 17. We lost two B-17's and two LB-30s to OPs losses for one Zero(air) and one Mavis (ground). He has a reported 7.5K of troops on the 6K island. Airfield Level 2 Port Level 3.

KB and Mini-KB
Mini-KB + KB (?) were last seen supporting the Horn Island Invasion six days ago. Location unknown but due to radio traffic and the need for him to upgrade/repair/rearm expect it it all at Truk.

Ground combat at Singapore (50,84)
Two attacks last turn as the first attack got 1:1, but the second attack dropped to 1:2. Most units will run dry with supply this next turn. It seems I am getting 100 - 150 supply dropped off every two days from the subs. The end is nearing but I hope to last until May.

I keep hoping to lose more and more of the non-combat troops to spread the supply around to where it matters. As most of my INF units still seem to have the beans and bullets.....

Do my light or heavy factories produce if he is in the hex?

It is my understanding that they will work until the resources run out but the resources/oil will not be collected if they are in the disputed hex.

A Third CV, Nope only Two?

Well, we knew this day would come....... Intel is now reporting only two CV's were lost in the Battle of New Caledonia -- the Soryu is no longer reported as sunk.

Damage Totals:
CV Zuikaku, Bomb hits 7, heavy fires, heavy damage
Ammo storage explosion on CV Zuikaku
CV Akagi, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires, heavy damage
Ammo storage explosion on CV Akagi
CV Shokaku, Bomb hits 4, heavy fires
CV Soryu, Torpedo hits 1

Given the above damage --- at best he would have lost the Zuikaku, Akagi and Shokaku, three CV's. Granted Intel is often wrong as to which one/ones are actually lost but I feel pretty good that he is down two CV's.

So with the four US CV Taffy's Saratoga, Lexington, Hornet, Yorktown (each with an added Marine Fighter unit) and the two British CV's in Force H (Indomitable and Formidable), plus Force Z (Repulse) am I crazy to think I can make a move on Canton Island after Christmas Island?

Some Positive Points -
* All of my Taffy's will be 15 ships and all ships are upgraded with the current upgrades.
* Canton Island is a Level 2 airfield, but it won't be in any shape to support his land based air. Current damage is 21 and climbing each turn.
* I have four British DDs following this massive force in an ASW Taffy.
* I have eight slow BB's to add to the mix. Four will be with the invasion force and four with the 15 Ship Taffy the USN 1st Bat Div.
* USN 1st Bat Div has been bombarding Christmas Island. It has six DMS and four DM (without mines) and has been working to get some really good XP.
* The Lexington's and the Yorktown's Navy Fighter Units have been upgraded to F4F-4s.
* Three of the Marine Fighter Units are flying F2A-3's and the fourth is flying F4F-3's.

Have you added Junyo, Hiyo and all the CVL and CVE's to your tally of enemy CV's?

I don't think it is unreasonable to try for Christmas, but I wouldn't linger. Drop the troops and get your CV's away before he can hit you. CV battles are still a pretty luck oriented thing at this stage, and if you lose your CV's now, he'll have free reign in the Pacific for a long time.

The ship experience is a table based on ship class, something like 35 for transports and small stuff, and 45 or 55 for warships. I looked briefly but can't find it at the moment.

I am going to assume if he comes at me he will bring the KB and Mini-KB. I will drop off the boys and fall back next to Fanning Island where I have 100 Fighters ready to rock plus ~30 PBY's in the area for search so if he wants a big CV battle I will be happy to oblige him.

Now, Canton Island is a different class, for this I need the airfield shut down and the Enterprise repaired (24 days out). I lose my land based fighter cover and I can only assume we will be even with land based search assets. This is something that may very well wait for him to commit elsewhere or even the arrival of the Wasp.

At some point he will make his next move as I don't think he is done as he does not yet hold Java or Burma.

I also need to figure out how I am going to advance in the SWPAC as I want to have multiple thrusts planned so when he commits to one area I can attack in the other. Just lack the lift to take something he is guarding in this area right now.

27 Apr 42 - 28 Apr 42 Executive Summary

AirGriff continues makes some other small gains but he does get Singapore.....[:(] Most of the work now is clean up to ensure he does not leave any base hexes in his rear. I am pretty sure he is up to something just not sure what right now.

Operation Chex
The 3 US Fleet Carriers are on there way to Christmas Island, target date for landing is still around May 1st with the CV Force arriving on the 30th of April. Force Z(Repulse) and a British ASW Taffy are following. Force H (Indomitable) will meet the US Taffy's and combine with the Formidable and start following what is now called the Fleet of Doom.

The 223rd Field Artillery Battalion, 110th Combat Engineering Battalion and the 40th Infantry Division have loaded at Fanning and should make landfall in one or two days at Christmas Island. All are 100% prepped for the base. This force has 4 BB's embedded. The USN 1st BAT DIV will bombard one more time in advance of the landings.

Raiding
Sub attack near, Davao xAK Tokai Maru, Torpedo hits 1, heavy fires.
Day Time Surface Combat, near Palmyra CS Chitose, Shell hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage vs the USN 1st BAT DIV. Chitoise is later reported as scuttled.

Singapore
It falls and gives him a 2700 point VP swing. Details of the combat are below.

China
The Air War over Wenchow did not occur as he did not fly, ACU is withdrawing north. After looking at all of the options here we realize that we have 29K of resources. As we don't generate more resources in the hex while he is present --- my factories will consume the ones present and generate supply to allow the fight here to go on. While you can't run Japan out of resources I can work to make him ship them from a far away as possible to burn fuel whenever I can.

Line Islands
B-17s and Bombardment forces keep the port and airfields closed. The number of reported troops drop to ~700.

Dora the Explorer
First off this is a breakfast cereal, if you knew this you have munchkins under the age of eight. It's sort of like Caption Crunch but with small stars. I have one US Inf Div, One US Inf Reg, two Combat Eng Reg and three US Art Bat's ready to go with preparation in the low-30's to mid-50's and climbing. Will require the carrier fleet and the fall of Christmas Island. There are 63 Heavy Bombers out of Pago Pago and Savaii that have started bombing airfield, damage is at 43. He has a reported 7.8K of troops on the 6K island. Airfield Level 2 Port Level 3. This will be launched if the KB is committed elsewhere or with the arrival of the Wasp and the repair of the Enterprise.

KB and Mini-KB
Mini-KB + KB (?) were last seen supporting the Horn Island Invasion a while ago. Location unknown but due to radio traffic and the need for him to upgrade/repair/rearm expect it it all at Truk.

Operation Captain Crunch
The 84th Indian Inf Bde, 3rd Hyderabad Base Force and the 223rd Group Base Force are unloading at Cocos Islands and will be done in two days. The Hermes Taffy is providing escort and the 4 Slow British BB's are now in route just in case.

Ground combat at Singapore (50,84)
Well it had to happen, I was hoping to hold till the end of April but still the whole affair went well so I can't complain. I had 400 supplies via sub arriving next turn but such is life. I am going to assume this will free up the forces needed to take Java and move on Burma. Not sure which is higher on his list but unless he swings his navy around to land in India he won't make much progress with a land attack via Burma.

Operation Apple Jacks
The plan is to continue the slow Island crawl up towards Guadalcanal. We are not trying to take any island that is defended or provoke clash in any way - just a slow expansion of my air cover. The target is - Ndeni currently held by me, Ndeni is a 0(1) Port and 0 (5) Airfield.

This would all the P-38 with Drop Tanks to Fight over Guadalcanal at "normal" range and at extended range over Muda. This would also make a find base for DBs, not sure if I would want to base the medium bombers out of here as it would be exposed for shore bombardment. Assuming that I can free up some PT boats from the Line Islands, place a 150 mines and find a CD gun I might use this as the Medium Bomber base and fly the heavy bombers out of Luganville - but we will see how this goes before we make any hard commitments.

The initial landing will be made by the 1st Marine Raider Bn from Luganville. From Pago Pago will come the 41st Base Group, 13th MAG and the 1st US Naval Const Bn. The Port will be pushed to Level 1 to allow the faster unloading of all large items (radar, vehicles, etc). Work will then be done to get the airfield to level 2 and the all work goes to get the forts to level 6.

As its seven hexes from Luganville to Ndeni, I may need to finally use my P-38s to fly escort on the landings if he finds out what I am up to. I hope not but we will see, the plan is to land the Marine Raiders first as they have some engineers to being that port work. If that goes without issue then the rest of the forces will follow.

Aircraft Pool
Not sure if these are decent pools or not but I suspect with the fall of Singapore that the air war at Rangoon is about to heat up.

I have the AVG/1stSqd# at Rangoon using the H81-A3, should I upgrade these to the US P-40E to free up the fighters for China as they are always in short supply and I have no replacements in the pool right now for the H81-A3?

Also note the SDB-3 pools are really much lower than they look, the two SDB groups for the Enterprise (22 days until repaired) are SDB-2 and this will take 42 planes to upgrade. The Hornet two SDB groups are still flying the SBC-4 Helldiver bi-plane that they arrived in theater with.
