WitW hotfix 1.00.08 - get it here

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

WitW hotfix 1.00.08 - get it here

Post by Joel Billings »

You'll find attached a zip file containing a hotfix exe patch file 1.00.08. We have found that bombing empty airfields starting with version 1.00.07 can cause a crash or data corruption. This new exe fixes this potentially critical bug. We suggest that anyone that is playing with 1.00.07 download this file and manually unzip the exe file.

Unzip the exe file into the \Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the West folder on your computer.

When you run the game, you should see the following on the bottom right of the main menu:

Version Installed 1.00.07
Exe File Version 1.00.08

For those of you that have not yet updated to 1.00.07, you need to do this first before you unzip the 1.00.08. When you use the 1.00.08 version and go to the Multiplayer screen, ignore the message that there is a newer version available (you have it). Once there is an official installer available and you use it, you won't get the message.

Sorry for this inconvenience. If you have any difficulty downloading or unzipping the file, please let us know here. Thanks for your ongoing support.

rs99z28 I read the instructions eventually and copied it directly into WITW folder it over writes the exe file. Should then be fine

No idea how to do this, is there a guide for how to do this for Windows 8.1? Don't even know how to unzip something and my computer doesn't offer that as an option when I right click.
There seems to be an assumption that an ability to play complex games equates to an understanding of how computers work. Presumably there is a reason why the newly installed 'update' function on the start menu cant be used?

It downloads as a Zip file....You may need to get winzip....Anyway down load then open the zip file and copy and paste the file inside into the war and the west directory and it should over write the exe file

You don't need unzip in Win7 as it opens them automatically after double clicking on the zip file. Then you need to right click on the exe file and select Copy. After that you should navigate to you game installation folder and either right click and select Paste or press Ctrl-V. Select option to overwrite the file. I assume it should be very similar in Win8.

This is emergency patch and will be replaced by the normal update.

I'm afraid all I am getting is a message about serial number as above. When will this be replaced by the normal update, as it appears that I will have to wait for that to play the game.

You must be running it in the wrong folder.

No doubt, but that doesn't help much! Do you know when the 'normal update' will be?

Just scroll up and then follow the instructions. You don't have to wait for the regular update if you unzip the file into a correct folder.

Thank you for trying to help, but some are saying you don't have to unzip and some are saying you do. I don't know what I am supposed to be just scrolling up, so there are no instructions to follow. Seems a shame that a potentially critical bug has been introduced just before a holiday.

I share your frustration. The working of computers are a mystery to me too. I cannot play CTGW since they introduced the latest patch (they started talking about exe.files and stuff [&:]) and now this with WITW.

Please Matrix can someone provide a step by step idiots guide to what to do please?

I'm no Matrix but i'll try to help.
Dowload and save the file on your desktop.
Double click and unzip the file on your desktop.
Find the witw.exe on your desktop, right click on it and choose copy
Go in the c:matrix games/witw main folder and right clik in it and choose paste.
It should ask to overwrite the old file , say yes. Close the folder and run the game
I did so and now i have a new file 1.00.08 that works

Gerado

How do I unzip? When I double click on the file it just opens another one, WarinTheWest which is shown as an application. When I double click on this I get the error message about the serial number. I appreciate your help, but this is very frustrating.

Well, having wasted a morning on this I am giving up for now. Could someone explain to me why updates are issued in different ways? Why wasn't this issued as a patch that could have been updated through the newly installed update facility? Still haven't had an answer to my question about when the next update might be. Realise this is a Sunday morning (UK time) but that's what happens when you drop something like this out on a Saturday night.
