After reinforcing the frontlines, the Germans again make several attacks. And of course, Guderian continues to gamble: “Klotzen, nicht Kleckern”. He orders the Italian bombers into action. The Soviets air force reacts by sending the TB-3's in and the FTR. An air to air battle commences:

Next: van Manstein orders an attack on Kiev. The USSR calls for the assault table:

The bad “14” is rolled, making this attack a bloody massacre on both sides.

Rommel ordered two attacks. One is at the northern edge of the Marshes. The Soviet airforce decides to give ground support to the defenders. The USSR chooses the assault table:

A disorganised FTR is destroyed in the hex. Next, there comes a small miscalculation on the German side. Well, I just forgot to press “cancel attack”. A mistake by Rommel? The Soviets go for the Assault table:

The last attack in the USSR is ordered by von Leeb, who wants to clear the railroad to the north. He orders the Blitzkrieg table:

At the Bismarck Sea, Marines and Yamashita disembark on the coast and an attack on Rabaul is declared. The fleet provides shore bombardment and carrier air gives support too. Of course, Yamashita throws in HQ support. The CW uses the assault table:

The turn doesn't end (10% chance, 7 rolled). The German general staff is quite pleased by the outcome of the winter battles so far. Since it looks like they cleared the mountains it's time for: "Lied der Gebirgsjäger"

(Also, I'm surprised the Germans advanced in the Caucasus, staying in the mountains would have let them align Turkey. Are they waiting till 1942 for bigger force pool?)

Italy's ability to straddle the shipping lanes seems like a major concern. Can the CW counter?

About as good of a turn as you can get overall by the Axis. For the most part, it appears inevitable that the Turks are going to be in sooner rather than later. The one attack the Germans lost 3 infantry on hurt and they may lose more out of it (planes unprotected, etc) and the Russians will reoccupy Kiev as well) can't balance the rest of the disaster for the Allies.

The mountain hexes are all in Persia, not in the USSR. The only German units in the Caucasus are the ones in the woods hex at the moment...

That's very difficult. The CW counted on the presence of the CV to protect the convoys. There isn't a lot the CW can do. War against both Japan, Germany and Italy is too much, even for the RN...

The Luftwaffe is wel protected. The disorganised planes are stacked with a disorganised land unit. The only air unit which isn't is the organised FTR. Von Manstein put the golden rule into good use. He could affort the loss of the 3 units, without putting the Luftwaffe into problems...
