air mining problem

Post by jcjordan »

Not sure if a bug or I'm missing something (probably the case) but just posting to see - I've got some Aussie Beaufort VIII flying from Palembang to mine the port at Singapore but they never fly to do it yet I've got B24's at Batavia that do. All a/c are set using city attack/mine port. I think (I don't have game loaded up at the moment to see) the Beauforts are w/in normal range 7 of Singapore if it's normal vs extended range thing.

What am I missing? I've run mining missions w/ Mitchells so it's not a Med vs Hvy bomber thing

Do you have mines in the pool for them to drop?

I just spent some time with both the game and Tracker and darned if I can figure out which mine goes on which plane or ship. Maybe it's somewhere besides the editor, but I didn't find it.

Do Aussies use the same air mines as the US Army?

Supplies & supply of mines - plenty to go around there in both cases

It may be as Bullwinkle said but not sure. The mine is the Mk13 as that's what I see when the B24s drop & I assumed it was for any Allied bomber to drop since you're assigning it the mission to drop in the City Attack menu

Is game date after the date that air mine-laying is allowed? Not before 1943?

Yes, I'm 9/43. US B24s work but Aussies don't seem to. Is air mining only available to US units or is the Mk13 usable by any Allied nation? I can try some Brit/Dutch as well as some US B25s next time I load it up. Using last Beta 1.23x10 IIRC

Only limitations I can see are
1. more than 5 mines in pool
2. af size > size 5
Nationality doesn't seem to be a limitation.

Michael - supply of mines is 500+, AF sizes are large enough (Rangoon 9, Palembang 7, Batavia 6. If you look at the US B24's at Rangoon & Batavia they both fly the mining missions to Bangkok & Singapore respectively but the Aussie Beauforts at Palembang don't (range is 7 & they have a normal range of 8) So I'm down to nationality, bomb load type thing, hvy bombers only lay mines, weather or bug. I plan to try some B25's to check out the med vs hvy bomber thing

Attached here is the executed turn, next post will have the preturn execute. Allied vs AI 1123x10Beta

If target range is greater than normal range, plane flys with lower 'bomb load cost'.
In this case, normal Beaufort a/c load cost is 2000, but halved due to range to Singapore. This is bigger than the load cost (1420) of the mine to carry.
I misread the range to Singapore - anyway the above rule would apply if range exceeded normal.

After tracking this further, it appears that the torpedo equipped plane is interfering with carrying mines.

Based on mine load cost, the Beaufort would only carry 1 mine to normal range
