PBEM Server

From the first clash at Manassas to the epic confrontation between Lee and Grant, the Brother Against Brother series will bring new levels of historical detail and realism to the battles of the Civil War. This regimental-level game, created by the developers of the award-winning Forge of Freedom, builds on that game’s acclaimed tactical engine, adding scrupulously researched orders of battle, high-quality map graphics, command and control rules reflecting the numerous challenges faced by army commanders, and plenty other features. Beginning with The Drawing of The Sword – which recreates the pivotal opening battles at Manassas , Wilson ’s Creek, Mill Springs and Williamsburg – Brother Against Brother lets you refight the Civil War from start to finish.

PBEM Server

Post by Michael T »

I had a look at the PBEM Server screen and I can't see anywhere how I can issue a challenge that has a password (to give to my prospective opponent). The WITE system has this. It prevents uninvited players from picking up a challenge. Did I miss something?

Yep, that's not in there yet but is one of our planned improvements for the second or third update.

Thanks because it's already happened that someone take the game of another player.

Makes sense, when you see a challenge it is natural to accept. In the case Red Comet is probably referring to, when I realized because of an AAR that it was meant for someone else I tracked down and sent personal message to the challenger.

It would be nice to have a way of being able to challenge only specific individuals.

Edit added: Also at some future point it would be nice if a game could be resigned by either player. That way you can clear out games from your list that have no activity from the opponent or you want/need to clear out for situations like the above or you need to stop playing for personal reasons. As it is now only the player who's turn it is can resign and you are stuck with it on your list of active games.

Definitely need a way to clear our game list of orphan games.

My suggestion for now is that you include in your game name who you are challenging so others can avoid selecting it. Something like "KW(U)vskwhitehead" as a challenge name.

Good suggestion. Just listing a "member name" doesn't do it. I think Matrix currently shows about 46545 members on forum list. You can't memorize them all. Plus even a search won't find many as they may be registered for pbem under another name. Currently all pbem games on the system go through Slitherine servers. That brings even more into play. You can search for the name listed and come up with nothing.

I like your idea of naming the game using "vs" (whovswho) if you want it only for that person. In the end of course, if you post a challenge that goes out to everyone, anyone could end up accepting it.

Is not enough, even if I named the game in this way someone selected it [:)]
Of course is not a problem, I just started another game.

Unfortunately I'm not able to see who is my secret opponent because I don't have problem to play against him but not now.
