I'd like to make a scenario with only one battlegroup fighting every day map after map. Possible ?

Close Combat: Gateway to Caen is the latest release in the critically-acclaimed Close Combat series and focuses on the largest, concentrated British offensive since the Normandy landings in an attempt to penetrate the German lines west of Caen and cross the Odon River to get the stalled advance moving again.

I'd like to make a scenario with only one battlegroup fighting every day map after map. Possible ?

Post by Mitibitibigaboti »

Hello to all cc fans all over the world,

As you know we french are a little bit pretentious.

My will is to make a scenario with as many days of fighting than there are maps ( one battle a day ), beginning by a first map, then fighting the next one, with one custom battlegroup containing every kind of unit.

I did this with the last microsoft cc, and liked to see my soldiers getting medals.

I know it's not realistic, but it's a game, and I'm a player.

Not sure to be possible ... ?

I think I'm able to change the values in the .txt files in BASE.

I read the workbook, looked at the excel editor (congratulations to the authors !), and didn't see how to change the number of days...

Shortly :

1. Is it possible to change the length off a custom campaign up to say 30 days ?

2. Is it possible to make BASE\xxxx.txt files to create a battle group with all the types of unit ?

I apologize for my english, I don' practice as often as needed.

Thank you for your thoughts about my will.

Cheers.

Look into the campaign.txt file to add more days. You have to edit quite a few lines.

For the BG's with most of units, there's a bg on each side that has most units and have the names of the corps involved in the campaign, the british VIII Corps and german II. SS corps.

Hi Kanov,

Thanks for the quick answer.

I noticed in workbook that Fpools.txt had two lines about strength and armor for day 0 to day 5 : do have I to duplicate the values along the line till the number of days reaches the value I set in CAMPAIGN.TXT ?

Thanks.

As I began to modify the campaign.txt in a duplicated folder, i noticed I could save as either in ANSI, Unicode or UTF-8 ; does anybody know which one I have to chose ?

If nobody knows, i"ll just copy/paste once my job will be ended.

Thank you.

The game expects a straight ASCII text file, not Unicode or UTF-8.

thank you for answering Steve, I used the same saving method than Triarius shows in his video about Excel spreadsheet -Notepad and juste save -, that works fine.

But I didn't succeed, I changed the max number of days, every line where needed (comma, value, coma, value etc. ) but still got an error msg ( something like "not enough values for artillery" ), so verified and verified and did not find my mistake.

Anyway, I did not notice there was five possible battles a day,so it's ok to me this way, my people got their medals !

Thank you, i bought the game two weeks ago, now let's play !

Mitibitibigaboti,

Just a head's up -- If you have modified the game files and you want to play head-to-head with another player, they need to have the same modified data files on their machine too.

Hope you enjoy the game,

Thank you Steve,

I allways keep original files, and if I play multi I use standard files.

But at the moment, I'm discovering Gwtc - did not play CC since 2000, and don't feel ready to fight against human.

I guess I discovered where I was wrong in my attempt to modify Campaign.txt, but at the moment it's no more my priority.

I succeeded to change other files too, to get more choices to make my battles groups.

But I like to stay close to the standard game, as it's balanced well, and too easy is not so fun.

Anyway, I would like to find a way to get more support, as we can choose every slot.

I liked to play with one AT gun, one hevy mortar, one scout, one sniper, one halftrack, one heavy machine gun, shortly with one kind of unit as tactically it allows progression under cover.

But having a lot of fun just as it is.

It's a good job you've done, thanks for support.

And to me, I can understand people who say the price is not cheap, but it's a choice, we know the price, if we don't want to pay, we do not, it's not fair criticizing what is clearly exposed.

We have to realise we are few to play CC, so what is rare is not cheap.

What a big message !

Hi !

Got it !

Understood how to change every unit, only need notepad for !

I made a division with every kind of unit, so I can play with command tanks, 1 stuart, 1 sherman 2, one hq platoon, one carrier, 1 scout, 1 at, 1 gun, 1 sniper, 1 mortar, 1 rifle, 1 bren, ... 1, 1, 1... 1 of anything I choose too !

Great, I like it !

Now, I have to understand how to conceive a campaign where my super division can fight on every map !

I forgot how great it was to play this game !

Cheers !

PS : I do not have excel, so had to do it with my poor hands without trying the editor I found in mods section, but it helped me to read it with microsoft online. Thanks to the author !
