Supply Question

Post by Von Cone-on »

Hi to all,
I'm currently playing the russians in a PBEM 41 campaign & I'm confused about the supply situation. I thought that supply counts down from the highest 10 to 0 or it stops when it encounters enemy held territory. But on the rail to mogilev the german supply is at 1 for four hexes which doesn't seem to fit. I've counted from all german supply 10 & they don't reach far enough to account for it.

Is it a fog of war feature that I'm not seeing the supply accurately or a bug of some sort or something else again.

Cheers Von Cone-on:confused:

Hi Come-on,

I played WIR a few days ago for the first time and so I didn´t look much at the supply-system yet, because of checking the other features first. (I got my first problems with supply yesterday.)

You better take a look at the supply section at the manual. :)

I can´t explain it very well with my own words, so I copy&paste the Blitzkrieg part of the manual here:
Blitzkrieg

At the start of the 1941 Campaign the Axis
player receives the benefits from the special
Blitzkrieg rules. This represents the initial
preparation and stockpiling the Axis did
prior to launching Operation Barbarossa.
The base Supply Level for Axis rail during
June and July 1941 is 10 instead of 6. Rail
will also convert to Axis operation at SL
or higher instead of 4. The base Supply
Level in August 1941 is 8. Rail will convert
to Axis operation at SL 6 or higher. If the
Axis player is receiving HELP or MAX
HELP, then on all clear weather turns from
1941-1945, the Axis player receives the
Blitzkrieg Supply Level bonus of 10.

You said you´re near mogilev and so I think, you lost most of the supply-bonus of the first month. Perhaps the weather is bad too or you have problems with your supply lines.

But good luck anyway :)

When you move a unit through enemy held territory, I believe where supply would be at level 0 but maybe always?, your unit will leave a trail of SL 1 hexes behind it for the turn after movement (at least 1 side of the game will do it, not sure if both do). Then in the following turn for that side, the supply routine will kick in and convert as appropriate for that side, and it is very possible at that point that the hexes will return to enemy control if the SL is 0 for the side and the enemy has a higher SL.

Right so where I'm seeing the supply as 1 for several hex's behind the panzer spearheads in my turn (as the russians), in the german turn they're probably out of supply if I count from they're supply 10 rail hex's allowing for supply conversion of 3 (As it's only turn 3)

Right. The big thing it does is allows the panzers to retreat if attacked and they lose, unless you cut the path also. Otherwise, if it dropped to 0 right away, I think the game would convert them back to your control in your turn, and there are mentions in the rules of problems retreating to a 0 SL anyway, although that part may not be true. No idea on that.
