Scenario crashed

Post by elmo3 »

Started testing my Smolensk scenario this morning. Played my part of turn one as the Germans. When it flipped to turn one for the Soviet AI the game crashed. Will send you the scenario file to see if you can repeat it.

Edit - It does not crash for the Soviet side if I set it to Human. It does crash if I set the German side to AI. So is the game not set up for either side to be the AI at this point?

@elmo,

The Soviet AI will not function optimal with your use of some Corps HQs, but not enough, and also Army HQs with.

The AI needs a consistent type of HQ as the lowest HQ that it can assign all units to.

For the German AI that would be corps level.

For the Soviet AI that would my 2 cents be army level.

My recommendation: Model all Sov corps as regular (non-HQ) historical units with like 6 subparts.

best wishes,
Vic

OK, thanks. Might just remove Soviet Corps HQ's in that case.

Yes thats what I did for Case Blue. The possible alternatives are a bit hacky imho.

I guess the lack of Corps HQ's will just reflect the poor command and control at this point in the war.

OK I now have Army HQ as the lowest on the Soviet side. I assume also having one Front HQ as the highest HQ on the map is OK? Stavka is technically the highest but it's not going to be on the map. Should I remove it and make Western Front HQ the supreme HQ or doesn't that matter to the AI? Thanks.

Edit - I do have air units and NKVD assigned to Western Front and of course new units coming on close to Western Front will be assigned to it. Is that a problem for the AI?

No you are flexible with number of higher HQs regarding the AI. Its just that the based of the pyramid of the chain of command has to be flat (and not jagged like with your mixed corps- army setup).

To be honest I don't see the difference:

German chain is Corps -> PzGruppe -> 4th PzArmy -> AGC. Or for regular Army it's just Corps -> Army -> AGC.

Soviet chain was Corps -> Army -> Front

Anyway I dropped all the Soviet Corps HQ's.
