RE: Karachi taken by Japan breaks offmap spawns

Post by michaelm75au »

The Invasion units should have arrived when the OZ trigger was tripped. The invasion supply convoy arrives in Capetown from memory, but gets dropped on map as AI does not understand off-map. Due to the AI not knowing how to drop the unit on-map where the on-map arrival base was captured, it was hung in limbo between Capetown and Karachi.
The confusion in arrival is due to the limbo act between on-map and off-map bases.

I thought there was a built-in delay on some of the emergency reinforcement arrivals at Cape Town to simulate their disengaging from the war in N. Africa and being shipped to CT? Air units could certainly transfer theatres faster but LCUs need some time?

IIRC it's Aden? But maybe that's Babes mod.

As I recall when people tested that there was no delay.

I had triggered the Australian LOD a couple of years ago and not since, so my memory of the occasion is admittedly fuzzy.
And I meant to say Aden also!

michaelm,

Just a clarification/confirmation as to what you have done.

1.  As I understand your posts, for the emergency reinforcements which are triggered when Japan crosses the line of death in India, Australia, New Zealand and in theory North America too, they will arrive at whatever nearby base remains Allied when the scheduled on-map arrival base is enemy controlled.  This is to break the off-map/on-map loop which existed and is justified on the basis that those emergency reinforcements are integral to the game design.

2.  For all other scheduled reinforcements the rule listed in s.16.6 still applies.  If both the main and alternate national arrival bases are enemy controlled, the units remain in the arrival queue until one of the designated national arrival bases has been recaptured.

The change ONLY relates to the AI controlled side.

1. Reinforcements will arrive as per the list in 16.6. If there are 2 bases, and first is enemy-held, then it goes to the second one.
2. If the arrival base is off-map, then the unit will arrive at a national on-map base that is determined
(a) from the location of upper HQ the unit is assigned to, with a delay of up to 30 days, or
(b) if HQ is destroyed or not in play, an on-map national base with a delay of up to 30 days.
3. If no national on-map base, then delayed 30 days.
1 and 2 have not changed.

Step 2 has been modified to add a third base for AI.
(c) If the unit is due to arrive at an off-map base, and there is no normal on-map national base available, it will use an alternate base. The alternate base is the 'best base' for that nation (friendly base and port level is 1+, current port +af level is 5+), and is calculated each turn so it will alter as bases develop or are captured.

There has been no change to emergency reinforcement arrival. They continue to arrive as designed.
However, they MAY be impacted by the change above when due to arrive if they belong to the AI side.

Thanks michaelm for the clarification that it only applies to the AI side and the extra info on the arrival criteria.

Very sensible to restrict it to only the AI side.  A human player who plays so poorly as to lose their two primary arrival locations does not deserve the assistance nor should a human player in PBEM who plays well enough to take away the two primary arrival locations deserve to be deprived of their reward.
