Error Reporting

Post by Hubert Cater »

Just a quick note on this, that if you do encounter any errors, typically what will happen is a dialog screen will pop up with information on the crash.

If it is possible to receive the following it would be fantastic and really help us track things down :)

1) Screenshot of the error screen.

2) The contents of the ERROR folder that is generated in your Users\<your name>\My Documents\My Games\Strategic Command - WWII War in Europe\ERROR folder.

3) Steps to reproduce the error and any information on whether it was repeatable or not.

Please send to hcater@furysoftware.com, thanks!

I was thinking about making my own thread here in the private forums with an AAR type feedback thread where I can post feedback and any errors popping up. Are we allowed to do that and do you think the whole idea of an "AAR feedback thread" would be helpful?
I will of course send errors by email aswell.

I was able to take a quick look at the game tonight. I unfortunately do not have a lot of time for this post but here it is so far.

The game looks wonderful!
I do wish there was one more zoom level.
Game so far is nice and smooth, been fun so far.
I would like the map moving to be a little smoother.

My only issues I found so far was Italian units missing from the bases.

Zoom out 1x and they will all show. Although most units are German placeholders.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. Where do I find a copy of the error log (which file) to send to you?

Try going to your User\<username>\documents\My Games\Matrix Games\Strategic Command folder.

There should be a folder called error.

Since the last 2 hotfixes I have been crashing a LOT. We're talking every 2 turns. Could have been back to hotfix 1 as well but I'm not sure, but definitely over the last 2 hotfixes. I never had this crash in 1.06 or 1.07 vanilla.

It happens at 3 distinct times.

1. When zooming in/out.
2. When panning.
3. When the AI has finished its turn and is in the process of handing the game back off to me.

I also have an 18 Meg error.sav if you want that - let me know. Right now I have to save the game immediately as soon as the AI is done. Often the autosave does not record stuff like diplomacy or research advancements.

Hi Jeff, if you have any repeatable errors or instructions on how to repeat the errors please send me any applicable error.sav files and instructions and I'll be very happy to resolve them.

Thanks,
Hubert

Specific error messages and the errorlog.txt helps quite a bit as well.

I've had a ton of crashes in the v1.00.07. version, have just sent a full dump and turn to hubert. I'm going to hold off further testing, as I'm getting only one or two turns crash-free.

OK here you go:

Error Screenshot

Errorlog Text

Error.sav

Behavior for this particular crash was the AI had just finished its turn and was handing over control of the game to me.

Most of these seem to be memory issues, could be a faulty EXE or related to some of the custom bitmaps you are using... we should have a new package and EXE in the next little while, let's see if that resolves it and go from there.

No this was happening well before I started making custom bitmaps. Ever since hotfix 1 or 2 is when these started occurring. I didn't do anything custom until a couple days ago.

This error happened when I was using mouse scroll to zoom in/out:

Hubert - The thing is the instant some people posted the map panning (or was it mouse scrolling) issue was fixed is the instant I started getting these errors. I don't want to lead you down a wrong path but I kinda wonder if it's related to that.

One way to know for sure if it is the recent hotfixes, or at least to help narrow it down is to try and reinstall the original v1.00.07 package and see if that fixes it... is this an option for you?

I just suggest this as your particular error is not currently widespread and might still be just unique to your end for now.

It will take many hours to replicate this and it could be quite open ended (I could play for 20 hours with 1.07 no hotfixes) only to discover it is fine. Don't the error messages I posted give you the information you need?

If this helps, these are my specs (maybe video card + driver related)?

* Intel Core i7 4790k (quad core HTT active)
* Two Ndivia 970's in SLI v368.81 default settings
* Playing at native screen resolution of 2560x1600
* Asus Maximus VII Formula
* 16 Gig High Speed RAM with tight timings and 1T command rate
* Windows 10 x64 is installed on SSD. This is the only thing on this particular HDD.
* SC3 is installed on mechanical drive. The is a dedicated game drive (D:)
* Creative Labs Sound Blaster Zx
* Windows 10 is up to date.
