Japan is tired of war but we cannot let the British sink our ships with no response. We did sink more submarines--forgot how many as sinking British submarines is getting "boring". We offered a cease fire but the British said no but continued their attacks. Now we will end the British presence in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.

On opening my Russian turn, I was surprised to get a message saying this was saved with version 2.26 and you have version 2.25. It is suhgested that you upgrade, or you could have possible errors in your turn. Is everyone on 2.26...I remember asking about that way back in G19 and being told not to upgrade until game finished... what to do??? Sincee I have other games going I'll hold off upgrading until I hear something from others in this game.

Upgrading to v2.26 shouldn't hurt. It has mainly functions meant for modders, and not as much for changing play. I think you could upgrade with no other effect than others would get the 2.26 message about them not running it. Of course if a Scenario was built with the specific functions built into v.2.26 then that would mean something.

3 March 1941

Germany and Italy continued to advance into British and French territory.

The British Isles have become a Flak filled fortress, where we raid frequently. Larger scale ambitions are on hold.

The German and Italian navies are exploring new theaters.

Japanese sank 5 more British subs....boring...but that will soon end one way or another. Maybe peacefully maybe not. It depends upon Great Britain. If Britain stops attacking my supply lines than I will refrain from attacking their territory...for a while until the world situation becomes clearer. China and Japan are willing to ally with whomever gives us the best offer.

edit--Japan will not join any alliance without the full backing of the Chinese.

31 March 1941

Narvik and Dakar were taken. ASW operations near Madeira surrounded some Royal Navy subs.

Off the British coast Kriegsmarine forces cleared the approaches to Edinburgh. A raiding party took the city-port again, but this time the Germans decided to occupy the city, and have a headquarters there called Seelöwe.

Submarines are doing recon ops in the Indian Ocean.

The British have declared a cease fire against Japan. This offer of a cease fire has been accepted by the Japanese.

The British Japan/China ceasefire continues. Japan is using this time to build up and fill out units to meet any future enemy that might show up. Hopefully the cease fire can be turned into peace but we are keeping our guard up.

28 April 1941

The German forces in Scotland have pushed west to bisect the British Isles. The British have not reacted particularly aggressively. They seem content to cordon our incursion off with infantry. We have added a Panzer Armee to our invasion forces.

Italian and German naval forces continue to screen operations in the middle east and Africa. The Italians are careful to screen their Soviet ally's positions.

Germany continues to make slow but steady progress in Scotland and England. We now control four hexes across the width of the country. The battles are hard fought as the British are fighting for their homes. The German troops respect the foe, but we intend to win here.

Elsewhere Italian and German vessels engage in operations against the British off East Africa.

Germany now controls one third of the British Isles. The British are fighting well, but we now have elements of five armies there.

Large scale ASW battles off east Africa.

The following is what we recieved from the British.......

We are not sure sure whether this was purely accidental or deliberate. It is not normal protocol for US
High command to publicly disclose messages between nations. However we believe this is a special case.

Accordingly Britain and France now find themselves at war with the United States. We shall see how such a
'useless' and 'cowardly' ally such as ourselves shapes up against them.

In the defence of the writer English is not his first language and he speaks English a lot better than I speak Portuguese, he seems to be speaking about the US in the third person so he is not talking to the US player, he refers to the US as cowardly in the third person, then he speaks about signing a alliance clearly not with the US, so who are the British talking to certainly not the Soviets or the Americans we can rule out Germany Italy and France, is it the Chinese or the Japanese. Anyway thanks for sharing the intel.

Whether English is his first language or not is hardly the issue. I wasn't making a personal attack on the player, just on what he had to say about us, his US ally. This is just the latest
in a string of altercations we have had with the British in this game and its the one that finally broke the proverbial straw on the camels back. I realize his comment about the US being cowardly
is in the third person but the one about us being useless is not.

I wasn't making a personal attack on the player,

I am well aware you were not I was just referring to the odd nature of the content, somewhat lost in translation, but I guess it was simply miss addressed. As to the British well I guess they are stressed as I would be in the same predicament Asia lost the Germans landing with impunity up and down the coast of the British Isles, what would Churchill say something about fighting them on the beaches, though they don't seem to be having a lot of luck there.

There was no language mistake, but the message was going to Japan, unfortunately it went to USA. No excuses, however, the USA has a coward behavious, and is a useless ally. I prefer to have him as an enemy. I was ever a loyal ally, tom and cpdeyoung know it. howver, the passivity of USA player is unacceptable and this passivity led me to serach another ally. I´m being invaded by the Germans and he didn´t send even a neddle to help us. Such an ally!!!! I´m going to surrender next turn, good luck, Germany. If I knew the USA player was such a coward, I would have accepted Germany peace offers.

Let me explain my point of view. Sorry to the other players for the situation I created, I hope it won´t spoil the game.

1-GB was at war with essentially every country in the world, except the USA since 1938.
2-I talked to the USA before they broke neutrality to see what were the intetions, I was assured that USA would sign an alliance with GB, so I refused offers of peace from Germany
3-Once the alliance was signed the USA player acted in a very strange way. He offered no cooperation and was even hostile to my suggestions for joint action.
4-The US players comments on my "absurd demands and nonsense" are related to two suggestions I did
4.1-That he could send me night bombers to start an strategic air campaign against Germany. I had good reasons to believe the Germans were short on fuel, they were sending about 4000 aircraft (400 SFT´S) each turn against Britain, but, at the same time, they were keeping their U-BoATS in internal waters. I believed that a strategic bombing campaign would not only divert resources to air defenses but also would deprive him of fuel to make his big raids that were devastating the British Isles
4.2-That he stationed a submarine in British ports so he could see my HQ´s and send me units. Sending units to me would spare him fromfighting against Germany
4.3-When the Germans attacked the ME I gave him the cities and units, guessing that the Axis powers would hesitate before DOWing the USA. This plan unfortunately failed
5-When it became clear that I would expect no help from the USA, I started contacts with the other countries. I couldn´t give to Germany anything they couldn´t take by force, so negotiations failed. However, the Japanese were suffering with a partially well succeded submarine camapaign, so I contacted the Japanese player. We started a cease fire (I stopped to destroy his supplies and he stopped killing my subs). I told the USA that I was beginning negotiations with Japan, and suggested an alliance between GB/France/USA/China/Japan). There was a good chance he could have won the game by this way, however, I got no answer either.
6-I also asked the Japanese to contact the USA. Not only the USA player answered him with evasives, but he also failed to talk to me about these negotiations.
7-As it became clear I would lose the British Isles, I asked for help of the Japanese to defend South Africa, I offered them an alliance, I was expecting to isolate the USA diplomatically so they should be forced to choose a side. I was also worried that the USA was about to make an alliance with Germany.
8-The result of these contacts was this unfortunate message. I don´t regret the content of such a message, but it was send....wonder....to the USA instead of Japan.

I believe the USA player simply don´t understand the new victory conditions. If you has an ally, you must protect him when he is weaker and work to avoid having him losing important VP´s. Because these VP´s will count to the enemy in the final score. The USA player simply played like he was not interested in winning the game. His DOWing of GB shows exactly that, he will win a few VP in Canada (4, I believe), which already would count for victory, at the price of a 90% fall in productivity.
If we were in opposite situations (I as USA and he as GB), the GB would be inundated by USA equipment from the very start of the alliance. Unfortunately, it´s better to have a good enemy than a bad ally. That is what happened.

I would not surrender yet with the right allies you could end up on the winning side.
